Bright and Sharp LCD HDTVs
Whenever someone tells me that he's decided to buy an HDTV,
the next words out of his mouth are usually "Plasma or
LCD?" I usually steer big-screen-loving, budget-minded
folks to plasma. Yet with prices dropping and the difference
in energy efficiency between the two technologies, I find
myself pointing more and more people to LCDs. If you're in
the market for a TV, you'll want to check out PCMag's
latest LCD roundup. It features seven gorgeous screens,
including a 46-incher for, get this, under $1,000. I wonder
if I can convince my wife to let me get an upgrade.

MP3s Are the Hot New Spam
A decent amount of spam makes it past my company's
corporate spam filters, but I have yet to see one of the
nefarious new MP3 spam messages. The interesting thing is
that the payload here is not typically a virus or Trojan,
but some crummy stock tip. There's something oddly retro
about this whole thing. PCMag has all the details.

Inside Apple: The Spots on 'Leopard'
By now you've likely heard that Apple will roll out the
Leopard OS X update this week. What you may not know,
however, is that company may also be prepping a MacBook
update, too. So say our pals at ThinkSecret. Get the
inside scoop on Apple's plans in Nick DePlume's latest
"Inside Apple" column.

Sprint Touches the iPhone
Covet an iPhone, but have no interest in the Apple brand?
Then you may want to check out mobile analyst Sascha
Segan's hands-on review of the iPhone-like HTC Touch from
Sprint. It has the huge touch screen, but adds a welcome
(and hidden) keyboard. Looks pretty sexy to me.
ExtremeTech editor Loyd Case spent some quality time with
another of HTC's creations, but he sounds pretty ambivalent
about the idea of holding "something up to my ear that
resembles a small tablet PC." Read both reports.

These Video Games Mean War
Are violent video games turning our children into tomorrow's
warriors? Probably not intentionally. However, as Executive
Editor for Reviews Dan Costa points out, there are some new
games, from Hezbollah, that are actually designed to recruit
future fighters. Are our games (such as Medal of Honor) and
these recruitment games all that different? Costa examines,
and you can discuss in the forums.

Beware of Domain Name Scams
A couple of years ago the Domain Registry of America tried to
take me for a ride, by convincing me that my domains were
about to expire and that I had to renew--through the DROA.
It was a scam, and one that the U.S. government has tried
to crack down on, but according to our Security Watch blog
the DROA is still at it. Security Expert Larry Seltzer talks
about how the DROA came after him and what's he's going to
do about it.

A Stylishly Simple Compact Camera
I love that you can now get a decent 7.1-megapixel digital camera
for around $200. Canon's PowerShot SD750, for example, couples
good, midrange features with great picture quality. It doesn't
quite surpass its very similar sibling camera, the SD750, but
it sounds like a great gift for someone who just wants an
effective, no-brainer point-and-shoot. Read the review and
check out the slideshow at PCMag.com.

Taking Samsung's Hybrid Hard Drive for a Spin
Mobile computing will likely be transformed one day by flash
drives, but according to ExtremeTech, today is not that day.
In early tests of Samsung's first hybrid hard drives (spinners
combined with flash storage), the results weren't pretty. I say
it's still early, and someone is bound to get this right. Read
ET's reviews to learn the bad news.

The 20 Sexiest Tech Products
Can technology be sexy? Of course it can. No, no, I'm not
talking about some kind of hard-wired autoerotica. These are
lustworthy products, mostly from the PCMag.com archives, that
turn us on with elegant design, ease of use, and maximum utility.
Yes, the iPhone is in there, and so is HP's Blackbird PC. You'll

On Beyond Vista: First Public Demo of Windows 7
Could Microsoft already be planning the next version of Windows?
Seems unlikely, with Vista stumbling along, but AppScout thinks
it's found evidence in a presentation Microsoft gave that includes
something called "Windows 7." Intriguing stuff, but I'm not buying.
See if you believe this report.
