Today I was hoping to write about England retaining the World Cup and Lewis Hamilton taking the Formula One title but, sadly, after a weekend of sporting heartbreak it was not to be.

South Africa ended the brave campaign mounted by England's grumpy old men, and the combination of an impetuous start followed by mechanical problems meant that Lewis was forced to settle for second place in the championship - still a remarkable achievement in his rookie year.

We'll have lots of reaction to the weekend tonight - Andy Gomarsall, Joe Worsley and Lawrence Dallaglio will be joining me in the studio to discuss how England turned their World Cup around, and Radio 5live's David Croft reports from Brazil at the end of a dramatic Formula One season.

Also in the programme, Des Kelly has been out in Miami to see how preparations are going for the historic NFL match between the Dolphins and the New York Giants at Wembley this Sunday.
