The United States will ask the World Trade Organization to examine restrictions on the sale of U.S. films, music, books, magazines and newspapers in China, an agenda for an upcoming WTO meeting showed Thursday.

In its complaint, Washington says China unfairly limits who can import and distribute entertainment products, including movies for theatrical release.

China will have the right to block the request at the Oct. 22 meeting of the dispute settlement body. Upon a second request, an inquiry would start automatically.

The European Union's review of Google's $3.1 billion bid for DoubleClick will focus on the competition aspects of the deal, not privacy issues, said Neelie Kroes, the EU competition commissioner.

Google in April announced the proposed purchase of DoubleClick, an online advertiser. The European Commission, the EU antitrust regulator, said it would decide by Oct. 26 whether to approve or take a closer look at the deal.

Huawei of China plans buy 16.5 percent of 3Com, with the potential to raise its stake by another 5 percent as part of its agreement with Bain Capital to buy 3Com for $2.2 billion. The deal leaves Bain with 83.5 percent of 3Com's voting shares, 3Com said in a document filed voluntarily with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

Intel received a "provisional extension" to Oct. 19 from European Union regulators to respond to allegations it illegally used rebates to wrest sales away from Advanced Micro Devices.

Stan Sigman, the president and chief executive of AT&T's mobile phone business, announced that he was retiring after 42 years with the company. Ralph de la Vega will replace Sigman, effective immediately, though Sigman will assist with the transition through the end of the year, AT&T said.

J.K. Rowling, creator of the Harry Potter series is suing a community group in India for breach of copyright for recreating Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry for a religious festival.
