Be a Tourist in Your Own County
during Open Studios Art Tour© 2007!
While you are out enjoying the artful bounty of our home on the Central Coast, take some time to explore and experience the other delights available to you, including the breathtaking scenery and terrific food!
Some suggestions from the Cultural Council:
Dining
- Whale City Bakery Bar & Grill (Davenport)- hearty, homemade food (great burgers!) and baked goods, beer & wine, espresso bar. Dog-friendly patio and great view of the ocean.
- Davenport Roadhouse at the Cash Store - a building that is a restaurant, inn and shopping experience all in one.
- Kelly's French Bakery - French Provencal bakery with a mouthwatering selection of pastries and organic farmers' market meals.
- Ciao Bella! - it's a dinner, it's a show, it's a hoot with Italian food (reservations recommended!).
- Tyrolean Inn - Authentic German food in a alpine lodge complete with fireplace and real German beer.
- Coffee Nine - great place for a morning latte before heading out to the artists' studios - they even carry Kelly's French Bakery pastries!
Experiencing
- Henry Cowell Redwoods - old growth redwoods; a part of history that hasn't changed in 200 years! Hiking, camping, fishing, nature center.
- Roaring Camp Railroads - the Santa Cruz and Felton line began carrying passengers to the redwoods and the beach in 1875, and Roaring Camp Railroads continues the tradition. On October 13th & 14th, there's a scarecrow contest and an 1880s Harvest Fair!
- Covered Bridge Park - one of the last surviving covered bridges in California.
- Bonny Doon Winery Tasting Room - One visitor to the Bonny Doon Vineyard tasting room described it as more fun than a roomful of drunken belly dancers. Visit for yourself and see what wine iconoclast Randall Graham and his rollicking crew (Graham Cru, get it?) have been up to.
Dining
- Rumblefish - well-reviewed sushi house in Scotts Valley.
- CoffeeCat - a great place to start the day or take a break. Manthri Srinath and staff roast coffee on the premises and provide a wide selection of teas and foods as well.
- In Vino Veritas - sister restaurant to Silicilian style La Bruschetta in Felton, this Scotts Valley restaurant serves Mediterranean (Italian, Spanish, Greek) influenced dishes.
Experiencing/Shopping
- Roudon Smith Winery Tasting Room - traditionally made wines from grapes grown in the Santa Cruz Mountains.
- Nunu's Clay - if the Open Studios Art Tour inspires you to make your own art, check out this family-friendly creative space.
- Zinnia's Home & Garden - unique gifts for home and garden, including work by local artists.
