Chris McCandless, who was immortalized in Jon Kraukauer's novel "Into the Wild," is a hero of sorts to the hundreds of pilgrims retracing the trail he walked in the 1990s, across North America and into the Alaskan wilderness. His journals, found in the abandoned bus where he died from exposure to the elements, tell of how he was rejecting his privileged upbringing.
For his modern-day followers, though, was this journey a spiritual quest or just a foolhardy adventure? ABC's Neal Karlinsky reports.
