Twice-Exceptional Makes It to PBS

Public television station WETA, in conjunction with its initiative Reading Rockets (www.readingrockets.org), has produced "A Chance to Read," a program on reading with at least one segment addressing twice-exceptional learners.

An excerpt from the program description: In Albuquerque, New Mexico, Dennis Higgins teaches "twice-exceptional" students, kids who are both intellectually gifted and have learning disabilities. Combining remediation with projects that require high-level thinking, Dr. Higgins helps students learn without focusing exclusively on their disabilities.

Another segment of the program features Mary Ruth Coleman, president of CEC, in which she focuses on moving beyond remediation to intellectual challenge.
