The air races have been called to a halt this afternoon after a jet crashed
about 2:45 p.m.
The jet was competing in the second heat of the jet
class, according to RGJ photographer Marilyn Newton. The jet had completed about
a lap before crashing in front of home pylon, Newton said.
Authorities
are checking on the condition of the pilot, and dealing with a brush fire that
started from the crash, she said.
