DC KING OF BARCELONA CONTINUES…
Thomas Winkle, melon grab at Sants.
Two contests down, one more to go. Last weekend DC kicked of DC King of Barcelona, an amateur skate contest series held at legit street spots all over Europe’s skate mecca. This is the third installment of the King of… Series (Barcelona follows successful am contests in New York and Los Angeles), and the first one to be held outside the United States.

By the time we polish off DC King of Barcelona, we will have hit three of the most notorious spots in the city. The first contest, held last Saturday, hit the marble picnic benches at Sants. Tons of skaters from all over Spain packed the infamous train station/skate spot, with Barce local legend Pablo Dominguez ripping the hardest, thus taking the Sants win and the 600 euros that goes with it.
Pablo took the Sants win and the early lead.
The next day we headed across town for the second contests, held at Forum. Again the locals turned out, but this time Patrick Boes was the stand out and took the win and his own 600 euros. Despite Pablo and Partick’s wins, it’s Christian Sanchez and Florida’s Thomas Winkle (yes, competitors worldwide are welcome) who have been most consistent, putting them in the overall points lead for the DC King of Barce crown.

The third and final contest will be next weekend at a secret spot in Barcelona. Details are under wraps, but stay dialed to www.dckingof.com for contest updates and details.
Switch 5-0 at Sants.
Apart from the contests, things have been awesome for the DC team, who are in Barcelona throughout the 15-day event. They’re skating everyday in the city and also attending their fair share of evening time events and parties. Look for footage from the trip in the upcoming DC King of Barcelona podcast, and you can also check out www.dckingof.com for daily updates, blogs, photos, and sometimes videos.
CHAS GULDEMOND, TORSTEIN HORGMO GO 1-2 IN SLOPESTYLE AT AUSTRALIAN OPEN
DC doubled up on the Australian Open podium.
Last weekend DC ams Chas Guldemond and Torstein Horgmo took first and second respectively in the slopestyle portion of the Australian Open, held at Perisher Blue Ski Resort. The event was back on after being cancelled last year, so the riders were amping to get back out there.

The slopestyle semifinal and finals took place on Friday. It was Torstein and Chas who were battling it out all day for the top spot. It came down to the last run for Chas, who pulled a Cab 270 on, 270 off the rail up top then continued with a front board 270, Cab 540 melon, backside rodeo 540 on the step-up to a Cab 900 nose grab, and finally a big backside 12 nosegrab.

“We’re good buddies, but the battle will continue. I was fired up (that I won) that’s for sure,” said Chas about Torstein after edging him out for the win.

Congrats on the 1-2 finish Chas and Torstein!
TORSTEIN WINS STYLEWARS IN AUS
On the heels of that podium finish at the Australian Open Torstein went on to take the win at Stylewars, a 3-star TTR event in Falls Creek, Australia. The DC-sponsored comp boasts one of the biggest slopestyle courses ever down-under.

On the second day of Stylewars Torstein simply put on a show. The focus of the comp was the massive Big Bertha, a 150 foot table top that launched competitors. Torstein loved it though: he stomped a perfect frontside seven mute over the massive jump, and kept the clinic going with a 720 melon, front 1080 indy grab, back five stale, and a switch frontside nine mute. After a baseplate-breaking slam, Torstein went on to take the win that evening at the best trick rail contest. Thanks to a big push from the rider votes, Torstein took the 2007 Grandmaster title and over 10 G’s in cash, plus two super bling necklaces.
