Delivering Critical Information With Real-Time Reporting
By 2010, 30% of Business Intelligence applications will need to work
with data that is within 15 minutes of being current, according to
Gartner. Why? Because ever increasing volume of business transactions
are conducted online and 24x7, and making decisions based on day-old
data is no longer driving competitive advantage. Join Computerworld,
Ingres Corporation and GoldenGate Software executives as they review a
unique solution, delivering a company’s most important asset - critical
information - supported by real-time reporting on a cutting edge open
source enterprise database.

Protecting PCs against logical data protection problems
By David Hill, Mesabi Group
Snapshot technology is one approach to solving the logical data problem.
A snapshot creates a virtual copy of a disk volume at a designated point
in time. At the time the snapshot is taken the original disk image and
the snapshot are identical. Thus no additional physical space is
required at that instant. The original data and snapshot diverge as
writes change the original data.

Towerstream update
By James Gaskin, ITworld.com
With all the recent noise about WiMAX high speed wireless broadband and
municipal WiFi, I decided to call one of the few companies actually
servicing wireless broadband customers: Towerstream (.com). They started
several years ago by using pre-WiMAX certified equipment to deliver high
speed wireless broadband to customers in the northeast and now serve
companies in Boston, New York, Miami, Seattle, San Francisco, Chicago,
Los Angeles, and Newport and Providence, R.I.

Meeting the Challenges of Virtualization and Tiered Storage Head-On
Many storage end - users are skeptical of competing vendor claims
surrounding virtualization and tiered storage and rightly so. It is a
significant change from tried-and-true practices and technologies, and
IT executives and managers are naturally cautious about such a major
type of deployment. However the fact remains that many end-users have
been implementing virtualization and tiered storage environments over
the past couple of years, and they are experiencing a significant
positive impact on their business and IT operations. In this discussion,
Scott Genereux will examine the apprehension - you might even say fear -
that remains, and in the process of effectively moving beyond this new
frontier.
