INSIGHT
Illegal immigrants crossing the Straits of Gibraltar
With the Summer weather and calm seas, large numbers of Africans are taking their lives into their own hands and trying to cross the Mediterranean to Europe on whatever vessels they can find. Last year apart from the tens of thousands of illegal immigrants who crossed the Straits of Gibraltar, a record 31 thousand made the crossing from Morocco to the Canary Islands and another 22 thousand were picked up on the coast of Italy. Many others never made it. Some 5,000 have drowned trying to reach Europe from North Africa over the past eight years. Morocco's phosphate-mining town of Khouribga is a departure point for many illegal immigrants.

The Italian Capital Rome - The Eternal City
According to mythology, Rome was founded by Romulus and Remus, the twin sons of Mars, the god of war. The Italian capital - also known as the eternal city - is home to ancient Etruscan tombs, imperial temples, churches, palaces and baroque basilicas - not to mention, of course, the Vatican. Many of the historical sites have figured prominently in films, such as the Trevi Fountain in Federico Fellini's "La Dolce Vita"., Rome certainly can't be explored in just a few days.

A WORLD OF MUSIC
A phenomenon both fresh and pervasive in popular music, involving today's kids and their parents a quarter of a century ago: emo rock. Call it the Romantic movement in modern rock music.
Subcultures and their music styles have always intrigued young people. Whether beat music in the 50's, psychedelic rock in the 60's, punk rock in the 70s or grunge in the 90s, teenagers have always tended to look for some kind of identification and footing in music and its particular way of life style. One of today's many musical subgenres and life styles is emo, or emo rock. Besides latest hotshot rock bands like "The Strokes," "Mando Diao" or "Bloc Party," it's mostly emo that Germany's rock kids are crazy about. And it's the same in many parts of Europe and the US, too.
