The New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation (HHC) has announced that its 11 public hospitals will exclude free baby formula samples from gift bags to new mothers, will ban formula promotion materials from labor and delivery units and will encourage initiation of breastfeeding in the baby's first hour as part of a campaign to increase exclusive breastfeeding and improve infant health. "I had my sweet baby girl 11 days ago and began exclusively breastfeeding her 1 hour after she was born. Within a week she had lost a pound and was not doing well. I was devastated to do so, but began supplementing with formula at every feeding per the lactation specialist. Anyway, I have been pumping and am only producing 3/4 to 1 ounce per 25 minute pump with an electric pump. What can I do to increase my milk supply?" Read more.
