>> Item 2 -- What's In This Month's Frëë Publicity Newsletter?

Frëë Publicity, the Newsletter for PR-Hungry Businesses, is a
subscription-only newsletter that features tips, leads, resources
and expert advice that will give you a huge edge over your
competition. You can do exactly what the top PR firms do --
without paying a top PR firm !

Even if you have not written a press release, called a journalist
or even thought about trying to get publicity, Frëë Publicity
will make it easy -- and fun - to claim all the publicity
exposure that awaits you.

Here's what our subscribers are reading about in this month's
issue of Frëë Publicity:

* Three Paths to National Media Coverage: How I Reached
10,769,509 Consumers in 7 Days - If you’ve been with me for any
length of time, you know that the one thing that makes me
different from other so-called "PR gurus" out there is that I
am very much a working publicist. In this article, I explain
step-by-step how I got my virtually unknown client on "The
Today Show", CBS' "The Early Show", and USA Today -- all in 7
days.

* Bill's Corner - Mass Mailed Email Pitches Are For Lazy
Publicity Seekers - With the advent of the internet and its
killer publicity-friendly applications such as: mass email
services, online media directories (Bacons) and instantaneous
press release services such as PR Newswire and PR Web, it has
become too easy for publicity seekers to push a few buttons and
blast massive information to the media. We provide guidance how
to properly use these services for maximum efficiency.

A big key to success in public relations is timing and
understanding the concept of "lead time", the amount of time
needed for a journalist to complete a story. With that in
mind, Bill's Corner dedicates a section every month devoted
to helping subscribers take full advantage of seasonal
publicity opportunities by working within the framework of
the media's lead time.

* Partyline Media Contacts - This month, our favorite outlet
for up-to-the second media contacts provides email addresses,
editor names, and addresses for key contacts at:

The Wall Street Journal's "Weekend Journal" - This section's a
good place to pitch soft items about culture, leisure and the
variety of ways that the Journal's affluent readers spend their
leisure time. You got the info, we've got the contacts.

NBC's "Tonight Show with Jay Leno" - Book yourself or your
client on "The Tonight Show" and you've made a placement you
can tell your grandkids about! In addition to celebrities,
the show uses non-celebrity guests from time to time. We get
you in the door, you do the rest!

Cigar Aficionado Magazine - Not just cigars! This high
circulation publication covers the finest in living,
entertainment, gambling, leisure, resorts, wines, sports and
autos. We provide the contact info plus email addresses. Sweet.

"The Ellen DeGeneres Show" - The sharp-witted queen of daytime
talk is back for a new season & is looking for guests. We serve
up all the show's key producers and bookers. Come and get it.

CNN’s "The Situation Room" - Do you want to get your business
mentioned on CNN's flagship newscast? We've got all of their
guest booker's contact info!

...and much more

Getting this type of insider PR contact information would take
you weeks even years to compile - if you could get past the
media's switchboards and secretaries! What can I say? This
section is worth the price of a subscription alone.

* Publicity Insider's Success Story - What happens when the
principles taught in Frëë Publicity are put into action? In
this popular "how they did it" section, we learn how Fellow
Publicity Insider and veterinarian Dr. Jim Humphries has taken
his publicity efforts to the highest level - he's
systematically climbed the media ladder from expert guest, to
TV host & producer, to spokesperson for an entire industry!
Ka- Ching! You can do it too!

* Rubel's Rolodex - Every month, top PR Expert Gina Rubel
http://www.furiarubel.com opens up her private "black book" of
media contacts exclusively for subscribers only! This month
she reveals her top Associated Press National Editorial
contacts complete with email & postal addresses, contact
numbers, and links to each publication's editorial calendar.
This prized info would take you an entire career to compile!
This might be our most important Rolodex ever.

* Media Profile - Associated Press Broadcast Services" - We
teamed with the "Harrison's Guide to the Top National TV Talk &
Interview Shows" to provide a "how to get interviewed" profile
of this news service which provides segments to 5,000 + radio
and TV stations.

To learn more about the Harrison's Guide, go to:
http://www.appearontoptvshows.com/?10667

* Seven Habits of Highly Effective Blog PR - Traditional
publicity has been turned on its ear by the internet. No
longer are publicity seekers held hostage by press release
tossing editors and producers. Websites, ezines, podcasts and
blogs allow us to go directly to our targeted audience. But,
there are new rules to be learned. This informative article
teaches you how to properly approach these new gatekeepers and
make new contacts for life.

Man, do you get a lot of solid information in just one issue, or what?

some editorial changes. The magazine has a new design and a new

>> Item 5 - The Easy Path to Becoming an Effective Publicity Writer -
Part 3

In the first two parts of this article, we walked you through the
needed steps to become a solid press release writer.

Our tips included:

=> Don’t put on a "writer’s hat" when it comes time to craft a
press release. Just be yourself. You’re already smart and
incisive enough to get the job done, so just let it flow and
allow your natural personality to shine though your work.

=> You needn’t be a brilliant wordsmith to write a press release.
Don’t view it a huge hill to climb -- it’s all about taking your
natural intelligence and putting it on paper.

=> If you can speak intelligently, you can write well. For your
next writing project, try tape recording your first draft,
transcribing and reading it back.

=> Speak to a Single Person. When you’re writing, don’t envision
a wide audience. Rather, create a character that you’re most
comfortable with and write specifically to that person.

OK, now let’s get down to the nitty-gritty of business writing.
Once you’ve used last month’s tips to overcome your fears and
insecurities about writing, it’s time to get it all down on
paper!

The Outline

Before I write anything -- a press release, a brochure, a speech,
or even this article, I create an outline. Every document tells
a story of some sort, and, in the outline, I decide upon the
"chapters" of that story. Unlike fiction, business writing
depends on the most important items coming first, so my outline
will help me determine the proper order of the facts, quotes and
descriptions I’ve assembled for my piece.

The Inverted Pyramid

On my first day in journalism school, my professor drew a
triangle, point facing down. "This," he said, "is the foundation
on newswriting." What we drew was The Inverted Pyramid, a
guidepost that all good journalists -- and all good business
writers -- follow religiously. Here’s a fine description of the
concept, courtesy of Wikipedia:

"The inverted pyramid is a metaphor used to illustrate how
information should be arranged or presented within a text, in
particular within a news story. The triangle’s broad base at the
top of the figure represents the most substantial, interesting,
and important information the writer means to convey."

The triangle’s orientation is meant to illustrate that this kind
of material should head the article, while the tapered lower
portion illustrates that other material should follow in order of
diminishing importance. This format will allow the less important
information to be more easily cut out of the article.

In other words, get all the important stuff out first, and leave
the supporting details and secondary info for later.

When creating your outline, use the Inverted Pyramid to put
everything in the right order. Number every entry of the outline
by its importance. The goal: create a press release that will
convey the important news to even the most short-attention-
spanned journalist.

Ok, you've just gotten a "taste" of the usable insider secrets
you can expect in every issue Frëë Publicity. If you're really
serious about getting tons of publicity for you or your client,
Frëë Publicity is a must-read.
