Universcale
Anyone who has been to a P***tarium or studied Astronomy knows that the true size of our Universe is almost unfathomable to the human mind. Universcale is a site that serves as an "infinite yardstick", placing objects of all sizes into a scale format to help us get better idea of the true breadth of the Universe.
Visitors can check out the various scales, which attempt to make a fathomable comparison of the size of objects from "the Nanoworld to the Universe". It is a truly amazing online experience to browse across a scale that begins in size with "The Great Primordial" (called a Femtometer which is one quadrillionth of a meter and not measurable by current technology) and ends in the "Extremities of Space" (where the outer limits of the Universe are an equally unfathomable distance of 100 billion light-years away). Despite being an awe-inspiring reference guide, these scales still challenge the boundaries of our human imagination.

The History of the Supreme Court
The Supreme Court, which heads the judicial branch of the United States government, is often referred to as "the highest court in the Land". Composed of the nine most powerful judges in the nation, the Court's main role is to protect and interpret the U.S. Constitution. Written entirely by educators, this fascinating website is a great tool for teachers and students to discover over 200 years of the Supreme Court's history.
In addition to reading an extensive history of the Court, visitors can click on the site's different sections to examine topics like "The Court and Basic Rights", "The Court and Gender", and "The Court and Young People". Other features include an Interactive Time Line, a virtual Encyclopedia of the many famous and infamous cases that have come before the Court, and a separate academic section filled with resources for teachers.

Impulse Buys
The Impulsive Buy is a light-hearted blog that offers quasi-reviews on a range of consumer food products. Although the editors do technically evaluate each product, the true value of this site is in its hilarious write-ups that put "the 'ew' in product reviews".
Read through the recent posts on the site, which include such bizarre products as Pepsi's "Ice Cucumber" soda, "IceBreaker's Ice Cubes", and Wendy's latest culinary oddity "The Baconator". Those who enjoy reading the hysterical reviews will find hours of entertainment in the "Complete Review Archive".

SHORT TAKES
Castles Made of Sand
While they may all "fall in the sea, eventually", some sandcastles will surely be missed more than others. These images from the annual competition in British Columbia's Fraser Valley prove that the playful medium of sandcastles can be used to create genuine art.

Report Card for America's Infrastructure
The tragic bridge collapse in Minnesota has instantly brought the topic of "infrastructure" to the forefront of our national dialogue. This non-profit website, created by the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), provides extensive "report cards" on the imperiled infrastructure of America's states, cities, and towns.
Browse the official ASCE website by State or Category to read about the status of Bridges, Dams, Drinking Water, Roads, Schools, and other public facilities in your hometown. The real benefit of the site is not just that it tracks the many cracks in our country's "bones", but its pro-active Policy Recommendations and tips on how "we the people" can help to restore the infrastructure of our great nation.

Modern Meat
Albert Einstein is considered to have possessed one of the greatest minds in human history, and he also happened to be a Vegetarian. Whether you are a strict Vegan or a proud Carnivore, one thing we can all agree on is that the American meat industry needs to vastly improve its safety standards and ethical practices.
Welcome to the "Modern Meat" website, an online companion to the searing PBS Frontline documentary that exposes the practices, politics, and conditions of the U.S. meat industry. Check out a variety of features including "Industrial Meat" (one cow's journey through the system), "Interviews" (with insiders, scientists, consumer advocates, and federal regulators), and "The Politics of Meat" (a look at the industry's influence in Washington D.C.).

Sports Temples of Boston
The capital city of Massachusetts is famous for many things, one of them being the legions of passionate sports fans that support their cities' teams. Boston is proud to be the home of the Red Sox, Bruins, Celtics, Patriots, and scores of esteemed University athletic programs, and it has the fans and stadiums to prove it.
This nostalgic website celebrates the many venerable arenas, stadiums, fields and ballparks that have housed so many of the franchises and events that have come symbolize Boston's long sporting history. Browse through the gallery of photographs of these legendary venues, dating from 1872 through 1972, and you'll find long-gone gems like "Braves Field", "Harvard Stadium", and the multi-purpose "Boston Arena" that hosted two NHL teams, famous boxing matches, collegiate sports, and even political forums.

International Ice Cream
While the invention of "Iced Cream" can be traced to the mid-1700s, it was during the 20th Century that the frozen delicacy assumed its place amongst the world's most popular desserts. While most of tend to stick with a relatively simple flavor, the cold reality is that ice cream is now available in so many flavors that Baskin-Robbins no longer has any reason to boast.
This fun article, created by Who-Sucks.Com, presents "101 Frightening Ice Cream Flavors From Around the World". Scroll the international list of eccentric ice creams and to find unique flavors such as "Octopus" (Japan), "Spaghetti Bolognaise" (Venezuela), "Peanuts and Wine" (Taiwan), "Stilton Cheese" (UK), and the inimitable "Chunky Bacon" (USA). Yum!!!
