The Nobel Prize Official Website

In his last will and testament, Swedish scientist and inventor Alfred Nobel
created the Nobel Prize as a way of acknowledging those individuals whose
work has "conferred the greatest benefit on mankind". Since 1901, the
Nobel Prize has been awarded to people who have made outstanding
achievements in the fields of Physics, Chemistry, Literature, Medicine, and
Peace (the Economics prize was created in 1968 by Sweden's central bank).

The organization's official website, NobelPrize.Org, contains a wealth of
information about the 106 year history of the Nobel Prize, as well as the
individual recipients and their achievements. Visitors can learn about the
process of nominating candidates, browse by year through the complete
database of Nobel Laureates, and read a detailed biography of the man whose
name lives on by celebrating the work of visionaries. Be sure to check out
the section entitled "Humanitarian Endeavors", which contains some great
articles on individuals and organizations that have been recognized for
their humanitarian efforts to make a difference in people's lives.

Nation History

History and Geography buffs as well as world travelers will enjoy the
History of Nations website. The site contains a brief but concise history
of every individual country, non-sovereign territory, and continent on
Earth. All of the information on the site comes from the archives at the US
State Department, with the exception of new material and essays provided
courtesy of the site's editors.

Search for a specific nation by name or just browse through the 6 regions
of the world; Africa, Asia, Europe, North America, Oceania, and South
America. Once you are done reading about the history of Afghanistan,
Zimbabwe and every country in between, check out the section on "History
Posters" where you can view and/or buy historical and culture-themed poster
artwork.

Visual Dictionary

Dictionaries are a wonderful resource, but like all books they sure would
be a lot easier to read if they just had pictures instead of actual
words. This is the eccentric logic of "The Visual Dictionary", a cool
collaborative project whose goal it is collect and log as many "photographs
of words" as humanly possible.

The Visual Dictionary is still a work-in-progress, but thanks to
contributors around the world it already has thousands of "word images"
taken from advertising, packaging, menus, business and street signs,
graffiti, tattoos, and even skywriting. While the project may appear
whimsical and idealistic, the creators see unlimited potential applications
for a complete visual dictionary, including the ability to convert text
into images instantly.

Butterflies: Canada to Peru

There are few creatures in nature, whether insect or moth or animal or
mammal, that evoke such poetic admiration within us as does the
butterfly. Its storybook transformation has been celebrated over time by
poets, painters, authors, photographers, scientists, and nature lovers of
all professions. This online exhibit, presented by The Virtual Museum of
Canada (VMC), takes a fascinating look into the diverse world of
butterflies and moths.

The virtual exhibit, entitled "Butterflies North and South", was created by
museums and organizations in both Canada and Peru. Visitors can explore a
wide range of topics related to butterflies, including their Physiology,
Lifecycle, issues of Conservation, and much more. Highlights include the
Image Gallery, instructions for creating a Butterfly Garden, as well as an
educational section specifically for Teachers.

Anyone with a weak stomach should avoid reading this article during their
