Cat Schwartz, The Hi-Tech Mommy, Predicts Top 2007 Holiday Toy Trends
Cat SchwartzGreetings, Club VTech members! Cat Schwartz, The Hi Tech Mommy and VTech Advisory Council member, bidding you a warm welcome to mid-summer. I’ve been in the tech industry for many years doing everything from producing television tech segments to appearing as a tech expert on national television shows like The TODAY Show and Live! With Regis & Kelly. The birth of my son, Jack, allowed me to morph my love of technology with my baby boy, and now I’m officially the Hi Tech Mommy.

It sure has been a hot summer and to keep things cool, I've got the inside scoop on all the tech toy trends I've been spotting in the industry, and if you're like me, you’re always thinking about great gift ideas for birthdays, celebrations, and even holidays. Let me be your guide to great gifts this summer and all year around with VTech's latest and greatest!

Computer and Internet Toy Trend: You went where on the Internet?
Gone are the days of playing Oregon Trail and solving math problems while fording the river! Welcome to a technology era where kids chat and play games with other kids around the world at the push of a button. Online gaming and social networking Web sites have been gaining popularity in the past year. However, as a parent, there might be some worries brewing about your child surfing the Internet.

Thankfully, some companies are sensing parents hesitation and have created products that hook-up to families’ home PC, offering the “high-tech” feel of online gaming with options for kids to visit secure, contained sites for additional content and Web play.

Whiz KidVTech couldn't help but embrace this new trend, and the product will hit shelves in time for holiday shopping! It was obvious to VTech that the way to incorporate educational content with a home computer was to create a learning system that can stand alone or connect with the PC. Say hello to the new Whiz Kid™ Learning System! This unique device allows little ones to enjoy 40 activity pages with 120 learning activities on the go with its portable "Whiz Pad" or, alternatively, connect it to their home computer. When hooked up to the PC, kids can play activities, track their progress, or print out new activity pages.

One thing I look for in a good toy is longevity to ensure it lasts past the holiday season, and Whiz Kid does just that.

Multimedia Trend: My blackberry is off-limits
Kidizoom CameraIf your little one is anything like mine, he's always going for MY new expensive gadgets. But now, he doesn't have to. Kids today can feel like they have fully functioning multimedia devices through kid-friendly computers, TV projectors and VTech’s new Kidizoom™ Camera.

Kids can enjoy a fully functioning camera that takes snapshots and videos, and they'll just love how the Kidizoom Camera allows them to edit clips with wacky effects or hook the camera up to the computer or TV for playback. The camera also includes a variety of preschool games and photo puzzles for the kids to play with too!

Rock Star Trend: Look out Hollywood here I come
New V.SmileMy son Jack has had musical talent from the moment he could clap his hands (or at least I think so!). From American Idol to Disney icons like Hillary Duff and the High School Musical cast, kids are fascinated with becoming superstars and with VTech’s new V.Smile™ TV Learning System they can!  This system plugs into your TV and allows your kids to play games on VTech’s Smartridge cartridges – yet also includes a sing-along microphone and writing stylus/joystick that can be adapted for left-and right-handed players alike. Kids can sing along with their favorite songs or skillfully navigate writing games.

From sing-along karaoke machines to classic toy drum made out of pans in the kitchen – let your kids explore the world of music and get ready to rock!

Remember parents, you're in control of the toys that come into your child's life – whether birthdays or holiday gifts or beyond. Why not give them something that will enhance who they are today and help them grow into the amazing little person they can be tomorrow. Take the time to play with each and every toy that they may encounter and ask yourself, what is my child learning from this? How do they look at this? How does it feel to them? I'm confident in saying that if you do this with each one of VTech's new toys, you and your kids will feel great about what they're playing with.

Have a “tech-tacular” summer!
