| 'HAIRSPRAY' |
| Director-choreographer Adam Shankman gives the hit Broadway musical "Hairspray" -- itself an adaptation of John Waters' 1988 film -- the big-screen treatment with this vehicle starring John Travolta -- in drag. The setting is 1960s-era Baltimore. Nikki Blonsky plays Tracy Turnblad, an overweight high school student who dreams of being on a local teen dance program. She's encouraged by her father (Christopher Walken) but given a reality check by her mother (Travolta). The film also highlights the racial tensions of the time. Co-stars include Michelle Pfeiffer, James Marsden and Queen Latifah.
