U.S. Indian Census Schedules, 1885-1940 Native Americans comprise a rich and colorful part of U.S. history. Beginning in 1885, the U.S. Bureau of Indian Affairs began taking a census of Native Americans living on reservations. Collected data can include Indian and English names, birthdates, tribal affiliations and relationships to heads of family. The Indian Census continued until the early 1940s, often counting a reservation annually. For the first time, these records can be found online at Ancestry.com with more than 7.5 million Native American names.

We’ve increased the size of this fabulous photo collection to give you even more relevant pictures of people, places, buildings and more. Take some time to search and see how these amazing pictures can add rich context to your family history.
