Scandal in the Senate

The explosive revelation that a phone number for Sen. David Vitter, R-La., appeared in the phone records of the so-called D.C. Madam, Deborah Jeane Palfrey, sent Vitter into seclusion. Vitter admitted to having committed a "serious sin," but that hasn't stopped the storm of controversy around him. Despite the controversy the Republican party has supported him with words and prayer. Robert Livingston, a former Louisiana congressman who also admitted to extramarital affairs, has some experience with this sort of negative attention. He tells ABC's Jake Tapper that Vitter should "pick himself up and charge forward." But Jake also spoke to a far less sympathetic voice: Larry Flynt. The publisher of Hustler helped expose Vitter's connection to Palfrey, and alleges the senator -- who has made a name for himself as an advocate of family values and traditional marriage -- is nothing more than a hypocrite.

The Surge -- Seen From the Ground

Iraq: a world where the abnormal has become the norm. As the debate over when to pull American troops out of Iraq once again rises to a fevered pitch in the halls of Congress, "Nightline" takes a rare and exclusive look at the reality on the ground. What is it really like for the soldiers of the surge? The tension of being a constant target, soldiers say, is unbearable. In the words of one U.S. specialist who has spent 15 months in combat, "Your body never gets to come down, you're always on that heightened sense of alertness." While many people are aware that Iraq remains a horrible place, a country where every day dozens die or suffer crippling injuries as a result of sectarian violence, few Americans have seen the reality of combat up close. Sean Smith, a photographer for the British newspaper the Guardian, spent two weeks with Apache Company. The images he captured in Baghdad may very well change your understanding of the reality of war. ABC's Nick Watt reports.

Daniel Baldwin's Reinvention

Finally tonight, a look inside the private life of one of America's most famous public families. Daniel Baldwin, the second of four brothers in the famous family of actors, has battled addiction for years. "Nightline" co-anchor Cynthia McFadden obtained rare access inside Renaissance Malibu, a luxury rehabilitation center in California, for an extraordinary look at a legend on the mend. It's part of an hourlong special that will air in its entirety Tuesday, July 17, at 10 p.m. EDT, on "Primetime: Family Secrets."

We hope you join us tonight.
