United Gates Of America |
| |
As part of the USA Direct season, United Gates of America follows Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter Charlie LeDuff as he journeys into the heart of California to experience life in a gated community. Canyon Lake has become a haven for white, middle class families who have fled the cities for peace of mind, and the locals love it so much they've dubbed it 'a bit of paradise'. However Charlie encounters something more sinister going on beneath the veneer of swimming pools, lakes and golf buggies. Gathering stories from both sides of the fence, he runs into skinheads, stoned teenagers, a porn director and more. The programme explores what they are looking for behind these gates and what happens when you separate the haves from the have-nots.

It's My Country Too |
| |
It's five years since 9/11, and This World investigates how the US has changed for Muslims. Islam is one of the fastest-growing religions in the US, yet one in four Americans regard Muslims living among them with suspicion. As part of the USA Direct season, It's My Country Too is a documentary that follows Salman Ahmad, the founding member of successful rock band Junoon, as he explores what it means to be an American Muslim. Salman talks to a number of people including taxi drivers, students and law reform campaigners and a mother whose desperate search for her Muslim son after 9/11 turned her into a political activist.

The World Uncovered: Sex Crimes and the Vatican |
| |
The World Uncovered is a powerful international current affairs strand which covers strong, hard-hitting stories that affect people's lives around the world, with exclusive investigations into the most contentious global issues. This programme examines a secret document which sets out a procedure for dealing with child sex abuse scandals within the Catholic Church. Crimen Sollicitationis was enforced for 20 years by Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger before he became the Pope. It instructs bishops on how to deal with allegations of child abuse against priests and has been seen by few outsiders. Critics say the document has been used to evade prosecution for sex crimes.
