WINDOWS CE STUDENT COMPETITION NAMES FINALISTS
Microsoft has announced 15 finalists in its annual Windows Embedded
student competition, now integrated into a broader event known as the
Imagine Cup. Out of these 15, the top three teams will take home a total
of $15,000 in cash prizes.

DRUG/EXPLOSIVE DETECTION GADGET RUNS WINDOWS CE
DetectaChem LLC has released a multipurpose handheld detection device
that incorporates an Atmel ARM926-based embedded processor running
Windows CE 6.0. The Seeker CDU 220 can detect a wide variety of
explosives, drugs, biological agents, and chemicals, and it integrates a
barcode scanner and optional GPS receiver.

DIGITAL SIGN DISPLAYS REMOTELY MANAGED CONTENT
Planar Systems has announced a digital "display appliance" that features
a 40-inch LCD and is based on a Windows XP Embedded software platform.
The iS40 Integrated Sign comes preloaded with the company's CoolSign 3.0
software, said to enable the device to receive managed, automatically
updated content.

B&R Automation has released its Panel PC 300, a board that slides

Westell Technologies has added the Opera web browser to its Windows

usable on AT&T's BroadbandConnect and EDGE wireless networks. The
Workabout Pro is powered by Windows CE 5.0 or 6.0, and offers built-in
barcode and RFID scanning, GPS, Bluetooth, and WiFi capabilities, among
other features.

Atmel has launched a new chip family aimed at reducing NRE
(non-recurring engineering) expenses associated with ASIC
