DC SNOW TEAM SESSIONS SCANDINAVIA

We went searching for a bit of snow, and we certainly found some in Scandinavia.
In May Transworld Snowboarding Magazine came knocking, wanting to go to Scandinavia and explore the far north. The locals call the area Lapland; we called it the North Pole. TWS senior photographer Andy Wright, and DC film maker Pierre Wikberg joined DC pros Aaron Biittner, Iikka Backstrom, Lauri Heiskari, and late addition Eddie Wall for two weeks of fun up north, way north.
The area the team stayed in, Bjorkliden, is right next door to the famous resort of Riksgransen. Now, lets be up front on the weather. It was rough. Real rough. A typical day would consist of snow, followed by clouds, then some wind, maybe some rain, and follow up with some more clouds. Sun was in short supply. Everyone stayed in cabins that were quickly renamed cellblocks as the weather kept the crew down.
Eddie Wall's always a fun guy to have on a trip... It was good to have him jump on last minute.
But that didnt stop Iikka, Lauri, Biittner, and Eddie from making the most of the terrain that Bjorkliden had to offer. The resort gave us brand new Yamaha snowmobiles to rip around the resort on, and built us a solid kicker to hit. So, the crew hit tons of natural features like rock jibs and cornice drops, then settled in to a few park jump sessions. Fun was had by all. Highlights definitely included Aaron Biittners ollie to wall ride to flat. He sessioned a rock wall for like an hour taking lots of flat landings, stomping each attempt. Iikkas frontside 540s and Lauris backside 180s on the park jump stood out as well. Not bad. On the last day the weather cleared and the blue skies opened up. It was a great way to end it.
Stay tuned in the coming months for Transworlds coverage of the trip, and go here then click on "TEAM" then click the "DC SNOW TEAM SESSIONS SCANDINAVIA" feature to catch a few photos from the trip.

CARMICHAEL CHALKS UP 100th OUTDOOR WIN
Hes already widely recognized as the Greatest of All Time, but last weekend Ricky Carmichael added his name to the record books once again. In a thrilling race at Budds Creek, RC went 2-1 to take the overall win and pass the 100-win mark in Motocross racing.
RC totals: 100 Motocross wins, 148 AMA wins, and counting...
RCs been dominant all year despite his part time status as a racer, but he really had to work for the win at Budds Creek. In the first moto RC was charging and preparing for a pass on James Stewart to take the lead, when a rock hit him in the goggles, popping the lenses out. He was forced to ditch them a few laps later and soon resigned himself to second when the roosts from the lappers proved too much to fight without goggles.
In the second moto RC was again just behind Stewart, with the two battling it out for the top position. But without the goggle malfunction holding him back he was free to pass Stewart with just five laps to go, thus picking up his amazing 100th Outdoor win.
About achieving the milestone, Ricky said, You never set out to do anything like that. I always just put my head down and done the best that I can do. Ten years later I have 100 wins and 148 combined. Its an amazing feat that I never set out to do.
RC chases down Bubba, then passes him, in Moto 2.
But what about the possibility of earning 150 combined wins before his career is over
is that a goal for RC? Not really, he said. Obviously I want to do it and those tracks (Red Bud and Millville) favor me. I really enjoy those tracks. I can tell you I wont go chasing that 150. Its not worth the pain and misery during the week!
100 wins sure does have a nice ring to it, but Rickys not done yet. The Outdoor series continues on June 30th for the Red Budd National in Michigan. Go here for the schedule or check out www.speedtv.com for television times.

So.Cal shralping.

After determining the best shops in the Northeast, Southeast, and Northwest, last weekend the Quiksilver Surf Shop Challenge took over 54th Street in Newport Beach to determine that region's top shop. Competitors endured lack-luster conditions and some pretty heavy grilling from the announcers, but still had a great time on the beach and threw down pretty well in the two-foot mess. San Diegos Hansens faired especially well, taking the overall Southwest win.
Hansen's offically has this year's best surfing staff in the Southwest.
Now the Surf Shop Challenge heads across the Pacific to the South Shore of Hawaii, then the winning shops from each region will head to Southern California for whats bound to be another heated final event. Check back with www.surfermag.com for updates on the contest! Go here directly.
