~~~Introductory Comments~~~
Hey all! Last chance to register for the High Rankings Seminar next week in
Denver, CO. We'll be there Thursday and Friday at the Qwest Learning Center
(Lakewood). There's still some room left, so if you are in the area or if
you think you can get away at the last minute, we'd love to see you there!
You can learn more and/or register here:
http://www.highrankings.com/seminar. Also, if you live in the area but
can't make it to the actual seminar, you're welcome to join us for a small
cocktail reception at the conference center on Thursday night (the 28th) at
around 5:30 PM. Please introduce yourself if you do decide to show up!
I can't believe it's happening next week already. June is just flying by.
Being out of town most of the month doesn't help, I guess. July should be a
little more sedate. Or so it seems at the moment.
Anyway, let's get on to the good stuff. It's forum thread week here, so
enjoy! - Jill
~~~High Rankings Forums Thread of the Week~~~
++Help and Advice Starting a Business++
Forum member "siringo" says:
"I'm thinking of starting a blog hosting business. Not web site hosting,
blog hosting. People will come to the site, select a blog template they
like, I set it up and away they go."

++What is the Yardstick to Measure SEO Success?++
Forum member "DIGITALLYDEFINED" says:
"I see the total number of visitors have increased by approximately 20-30%
month by month. These sites are generating decent sales, but direct users
from search engines referrals are really very low.
What is the yard stick to measure good SEO efforts -- is the direct visits
from search engines the only parameter of successful SEO?"

++You Can't Fake Real Content++
We had a very interesting discussion regarding my last Search Engine Land
article, "You Can't Fake Real Content."

++Article Dos and Don'ts++
Forum member "1dmf" asks the High Rankings gang:
"If you wrote an article/blog, how do you do the links? For example, if we
were to write an article about remortgaging, would we anchor to the
remortgaging advice page every time the word remortgage is used? Or do you
write the article and at the end have one link to the relevant page?"

++Purchase Orders - Accept or Not?++
Forum member "arlen" says:
" I just received my first Purchase Order from a school today ... total
surprise, no contact, no note, just a PO for a $60 order. I did a little
lookup online and they're legit, I'm sure they pay their bills, I'm sure I'd
be ok accepting the PO, but ... errr, not sure I want to set a precedent."

Keyword Research Tool That Totally Rocks!
__________________________________________________
"KeywordDiscovery is my keyword research tool of choice!
"We've been using it for the past few years now, and our clients are truly
benefiting from the additional terms we're finding that may otherwise have
been missed.
"It's always great to be able to recommend helpful tools like
KeywordDiscovery to our High Rankings Forum members, newsletter subscribers,
and High Rankings seminar attendees!"

++Need to See Google Ads in the US, but Live in Canada+++
This was an old, revived thread from January, but has some worthwhile info,
so I'm putting it in as a thread of the week:
Forum member "jd1976" asks, "Is there an easy way to see all the ads that
are going on in the US Adwords market?"

~~~Advisor Wrap-up~~~
That's all for today!
Last week in Toronto was great fun, and I'm looking forward to next week in
Denver. I've never been there, and will be staying through Sunday in order
to get to see a little of the area. Any suggestions for things to do?
Also, before we know it, our next SEMNE event on July 10th featuring Dan Crow
from Google will be here! This one is filling up really quickly as it's
free for SEMNE members and only $35 for non-members (through July 25th). If
you're interested in learning how to get tricky content indexed by Google,
as well as being able to ask questions directly to Dan, you don't want to
miss this event. (Plus Dan has an awesome English accent, ladies!) It's
going to be in Providence, RI from 6:30PM-9:00PM. There will be lots of
time for networking with your fellow search marketers, while you have a bite
to eat as well as a cocktail (or two!). Learn more about becoming a SEMNE
member or sign up for the event here:
On another note, things at the "new" office have been going great! We've
been here since February and it's definitely feeling like home now. I don't
think I've mentioned yet that it's no longer just me and Pauline. We now
have a new SEO Associate, Jesse, and also have my daughter Corie coming in a
few days a week to help out during the summer. It's been so great having
all of us there. In fact, when I was in Seattle a few weeks ago, I was
really missing the office...go figure. This from the girl who worked at
home for 12 years! But the best news of all is that this is the first time
in at least 2 years that I'm feeling slightly "unburied" as far as work is
concerned. We're so glad we took our time to find the right person for the
SEO associate position. It stunk when we were interviewing and needed help
so badly, but it's clear that Jesse was a great find for us, and worth the
wait! I'm sure you'll get to hear from him at some time here in the
newsletter, and/or meet him at a future event.
The bottom line of being unburied is that we're ready to start taking on
some new clients! If you've been looking for some SEO advice -- from the
15-min SEO Tele-clinic
to the mid-level SEO Site Audit report
SEO services -- please let me know. We're still picky about who we will
take as clients, but feel free to fill out a request form
No newsletter next week due to the seminar, but I should have a full-length
one for you the week after that.
See you in Denver! - Jill
