AND NOW A WORD FROM OUR SPONSOR...

--"I Never Should Have Tolerated It!"--

Mary was angry. She was losing her husband to divorce. Why? Lack of
money--the debt was out of control. Hurtful things were said. Her
relationship with her husband declined and never recovered. It's sad,
really. But not uncommon. Not at all. Did you know over 70% of marriages
that end in divorce are due to financial difficulties. If your marriage is
suffering because of a high debt load, you need to do something about it
NOW. Not tomorrow. Not next week. If you wait any longer, you may be
bankrupt, divorced or both. My name is Clint Holland. I've developed a
system that anyone can use to pay off all their debt, including the
mortgage, in just 3-5 years--without bankruptcy, debt consolidation, or any
unethical tactics. Will you let me help you? Member BBB.

DON'T GET IN THAT CAR!
Recently there has been a lot in the news about abductions related to women
being forced into vehicles. It is VERY important to talk with your
children, your teens, and other family members about having a plan, knowing
what you want to do if something like this happens. Every situation is
different, and only YOU can decide what course you should take if, God
forbid, something like this ever happens to you. There are people that have
broken all the security "rules" and survived, others that did everything
right and didn't. But I can tell you that one security expert said that if
you let someone take you to another location, then your chances for survival
drop about 80%. Let's face it, if they were just going to rob you, they
wouldn't take you with them. Someone is holding a weapon on you or
threatening you, and tells you, "Do what I say and you won't get
hurt,"...you should believe someone holding a weapon on you or threatening
you!?!!?? Of course not! Some experts advise to do the opposite of what
the attacker says; so if he says, "Don't scream," you might consider
screaming. We have taught our children that they should never let an
attacker take them anywhere, but should fight to get away, even if they are
armed. Even if the abductor has a gun or knife, they may get stabbed or
shot, but hopefully they will still be in an area where they can get help.
We have taught our children that if someone forces them into a vehicle &
they can't get away, to grab the steering wheel at the right time to cause
an accident with another vehicle, to push down on an accelerator or brake
pedal to do the same, or to pull wires out from under the dash. If the
person is making you drive, then all the easier to cause an accident,
preferably in a public area, like near a restaurant. CARRY pepper spray,
but NOT on your key ring. We have taught our children that if anyone is
attacking a parent when the child is present, NOT to try to help, but to run
away and call for help, and not to look back. My children know that I would
give my life for them, and that if that happens they shouldn't ever feel
guilty about surviving by running away & trying to get help. When something
does happen to someone in the news, use it as a learning tool, discuss
things the person did right, or could have done better. This is a small
sample of what our plan is, you may choose to teach your family different
tactics, but whatever you decide your path might be, have a plan. Only you
can decide what is right for you. POST IT...in a prominent place to
remember to discuss plans periodically.

WEIGHT LOSS "MIRACLES"
Stop it. Stop looking for a way to lose weight without diet and exercise.
There is NO easy way to lose weight, it takes work, but oh, the rewards.
Even drastic weight loss methods that have been in the news recently, like
surgeries and certain medications, still require you to control your food
intake and exercise. An expert on a recent PBS program on obesity said that
only about 5% of people who have the surgeries done actually get to a normal
weight, not to mention the risks of surgery. Most surgeons wouldn't operate
on obese patients because of the high risk, if it were any other kind of
surgery. A new over the counter medication will be snapped up and people
will try to use it without diet & exercise and have to deal with "treatment"
effects that had one site recommending carrying an extra set of pants with
you. So please, please, if you can watch your diet & exercise to have a
surgery or be on a diet medication, then you can diet and exercise with good
results WITHOUT surgery or medications. You can do it, you just have to
truly commit and quit making excuses. The best programs with LONG TERM
results are usually the ones that involve accountability programs, and
healthy diet & exercise programs, like Weight Watchers or First Place.

Avoid the expensive programs where you have to pay a lot of money up front,
or buy the food. Watch programs like "The Biggest Loser" for inspiration.
http://www.nbc.com/The_Biggest_Loser/
Print out before & after photos of their last winner, Eric Chopin, who lost
214 lbs and 53% body fat in 8 1/2 months, and he works in a Deli! For those
who think they only did it on the show, you should know that for the final 6
months of the weight loss, contestants are home & doing things on their own.
Eric lost 90 of his lbs during that time. For exercise get the book, "Body
for Life," and check out all the before & after photos of people just like
you! You can do it, you just need to commit and make the time. Summer is a
great time for fresh starts. As always, check with your doctor before
starting any exercise or diet program. Someone once said, "What one man (or
woman) can do, another can do." Make your choice today, that's half the
battle. POST IT...on your fridge.

"HONEY, WE'RE KILLING THE KIDS"
Need a little more encouragement to start a weight loss program? TLC (The
Learning Channel) on cable, has a show called, "Honey, We're Killing the
Kids," currently on Wednesday nights at 8pm and 11pm. Each episode starts
with a health evaluation of the children, then using the data collected, a
computer program ages the kids to their 40's to show what they will look
like if they continue on the unhealthy path that their parents are allowing.
Most of the time the parents actually look very upset when they see how
their kids will turn out if things aren't changed (I think many adults might
also benefit from this technology, if they could see how they will look
themselves in a few years). Let's face it, none of us would give poison to
our kids, and yet in a way, we are slowly poisoning them with poor diet &
lack of exercise. Then the registered dietician host presents a 3 week plan
to help the family start eating healthier, exercising, and just getting rid
of bad habits. Then once the changes are in place, another age progression
is shown if the kids continue their good habits. You can read more about it
at this site...
http://tlc.discovery.com/fansites/honey/honey.html
Even if you don't have cable, the website has a lot of video & good
resources for you. Most parents are probably more concerned with their own
weight & habits, & think that their kids have plenty of time to fix things.
But some studies have indicated that this generation of children may be the
first to live a shorter life span than their parents, due to poor diet &
exercise habits. My only concern about the show is that they make drastic
changes all at once, and I think changes can be made gradually with less
drama within the family, but the show is filled with good ideas to implement
in our own families. While the kids may protest at first, discipline is just
as necessary in this area, as in misbehavior. If you don't want kids to be
rude and run rampant, then you discipline them, because you love them. If
you don't want them to die young & unhealthy, then you discipline them in
the areas of diet & exercise, because you love them AND be a good example to
them. If you have trouble being healthy for yourself, do it for your
children. If your children are healthy already, do it so that you will live
longer to be there for them. You CAN do it. POST IT...on your calendar and
TV Guide.

SUMMER WATER FIGHT
June 21st is the first day of summer, and here's a fun way for the family to
ring it in. Buy some large sponges and some buckets. Fill the buckets with
water, then have a summer water fight with sponges. Get the whole family
out there throwing water filled sponges at each other. A few rules are
helpful...no throwing at the head, no dumping opponents' buckets, and as
long as your hand is on the bucket you cannot be attacked. Also either have
a different color sponge for each family member, or write their names on the
dry sponges with permanent marker before beginning. POST IT...on your
calendar & shopping list.

RECIPE: Mexican Casserole
Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Spray a 9x13 pan with non-stick cooking spray.
Take 3 of the 7.5 oz cans of ready to bake biscuits and cut them into 8ths.
Mix pieces with 1 3/4C salsa (about 16 oz, use mild or hot, whatever your
family likes), using spoon to help separate pieces for even coating. Spoon
pieces onto the 9x13 pan and press gently & evenly throughout pan. Brown 1
lb ground beef, and rinse with hot water to get rid of almost all fat (could
also use beef or chicken chunks). Sprinkle meat evenly over biscuits.
(Optional...sprinkle a can of drained corn over the meat.) Then sprinkle
with 3C (about 12 oz) of your favorite shredded cheese (fat free works well
too). Sprinkle with 1/2C regular chopped onions, and 1/2C chopped green
onions (could use all of one kind if desired). Then sprinkle with 2 1/4 oz
can of sliced black olives. Bake for about 25-30 min or until edges are
light brown & center feels set (if you use a glass pan, you can see if it is
brown in the middle bottom). Do NOT over bake. Cut into squares and
serve with extra salsa if desired. POST IT...on your shopping list & recipe
box.

FINAL WORDS

JOKE (A Belated Father's Day Joke)
A young man comes home and says "Dad, just got my driver's license and would
like to use the family car." Father replies, "O.K., son. But, first, you
have to get good grades in school, keep your room clean, make the yard
neat, and cut your hair. Come back in a few months and then we'll see."
Well, several months pass and the young man comes into the house with his
report card in his hand. "Dad, I got great marks on my report card. I've
been keeping my room as neat as a pin, and the yard is always ship-shape.
How about letting me use the car?" Father replies, "That's all true, but
son you didn't cut your hair." Son says, "But, dad, the disciples had long
hair." Father replies, "Yes, son, you're perfectly right. And they walked
everywhere they went."

QUOTE

practiced in our social [interaction], give a greater charm to the character
