Tip of the Week

Hi Criss,

Summer is almost "officially" here... though some of you would insist that it's been hot enough to qualify for at least a month! Time to enjoy family gatherings, summer vacations and spending time with friends.

What are some of your favorite summer subjects to scrap? Fresh ideas for layouts, color schemes and page embellishments? Post your ideas and inspirations in this forum thread and share your summer secrets with everyone!

Designer's Favorite Page

One of my favorites this week was "Cutie" by mvermeer. She modified the template a little by tipping her photos so they look like they are overlapping. I love how she chose beautiful muted colors that really showed off the three sweet pictures of her baby boy and the poem that she used in the journaling block was perfect.

A little colored brushwork and some cute tags on the photo completed this great layout. Thanks, mvermeer and all the other talented scrappers who posted their template layouts. Great job!

This week's template by Creative Team Member Nancy Marti

I set out to create a page for my husband for Father's Day and the Simply Celebrations CD by Michelle Shefveland and Doris Castle was my choice. I love pages with lots of rich color and geometric shapes so creating the template layout was pretty easy.

Another inspiration for the layout came from Jenny Binder's new downloadable Limitless collection. I fell in love with the geometric shapes and possiblities. After going through it I felt my template was a little unfinished so I went back and added the smaller circle to give the layout a little more balance.

Design Tip:
I like to re-color papers to go better with my photographs. In this case I used the Simply Celebrations CD and chose papers from several different kits. I then re-colored not only the paper but also the shirt to get to the shade I wanted. In PSE simply go to Enhance / Adjust Color / Hue Saturation and click colorize. Now play with the sliders until you hit the shade you are looking for to match other elements or your photograph.

A hint to work smart: save your re-colored papers in a sub-folder of the kit so you don't have to go through the process should you decide to use that particiular version of the page again in the future. Name it "My Versions" so you know they are not the original papers.

Linda's Tip: Photo Frame

photo frameLast week I showed you how I took a photo of a bed frame and used the Transform tool to make it into a rectangle with straight sides.

This week I'll show you how I got the photos to fit into the triangles. I'll even give you the bed frame photo I used so you can try it yourself!

Have a great week, enjoy Nancy's template, and I'll look forward to seeing your layouts based on her template in the Digital Scrapper Gallery!

Love and scrapbooking success,

Linda
