Publicis Groupe, a Paris-based advertising company, said Thursday it had agreed to buy Business Interactif, which it described as the biggest independent digital advertising company in France, accelerating a race between ad agencies and Internet portals like Google for control of the fastest-growing part of the marketing business.

Publicis agreed to pay €137 million, or $182 million, for Business Interactif, which creates online advertising and develops e-commerce sites, working with clients like L'Oréal, Nestlé, Bouygues Télécom and the International Olympic Committee

Under the agreement, Publicis agreed to acquire a 49 percent stake in Business Interactif from its founders, Emmanuel Henrion and François de la Villardière. Other shareholders in Business Interactif, which is publicly traded in Paris, will be offered at €10.10 per share, a 10 percent premium to the closing price Wednesday. Publicis will pay 50 percent of that in cash and 50 percent through newly issued shares.

Alfa Group, a holding company owned by the Russian billionaire Mikhail Fridman, paid $307.6 million for an additional 1.4 percent stake in VimpelCom, according to a U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission filing dated June 8. The purchase raises Alfa's holding to 43.8 percent amid a battle with Telenor for control of VimpelCom, the Russian mobile phone company.

Microsoft has announced that it will license instant messaging and digital media technology to a small desktop Linux distributor, Linspire, which is based in San Diego, adding to a growing number of deals meant to help the Windows operating system work more smoothly with open-source software.

Creative Technology, a maker of portable music players, said Thursday that it intended to delist voluntarily from the Nasdaq Global Market to save on costs. Creative will maintain a listing in its home base, Singapore, it said.

NTT DoCoMo, the largest Japanese mobile phone operator, will start offering unlimited wireless Internet access for computers at a flat rate to prevent customers from defecting to rivals, the chief executive, Masao Nakamura, said Thursday.
