Until I was 24 years old, I was the king of laziness.
Pleasure was ALL I wanted. So certainly, I found what I
thought was it. But I was unhappy most of the time. No
matter where I was or who I was with, I wanted to be
somewhere else and with someone else.

By then, I'd never dated anyone longer that about 3 weeks
and I dated a fair amount. I always wanted someone better.
But no one ever explained to me that if I lived
differently, enjoying each moment as much as possible,
helping other people whenever I could, and by giving my
absolute best at work, I would be able to get more pleasure
in life than if I played all day, everyday.

I can tell you that since 1987, I have worked more hours
than 99.9% of the world's population. Yet during that
time, I have experienced more true joy than I ever knew
existed in the world.

During my pleasure pursuits, I was miserable. I didn't
like myself. I didn't trust many people, because I,
myself, was untrustworthy. I figured all people were
generally like me.

Think about the movie stars and rock stars that are so
strung out that they kill themselves with drugs and
alcohol. They have the false belief that everything has to
be fun RIGHT NOW or it sucks.
T
he truth is your happiness has more to do with serving
other people than you might be willing to consider at this
moment.

Adjust your daily focus to how you can help others and
your career will flourish, your relationships will blossom,
your health will shine. And you will look back at the end
of your life and be satisfied beyond measure.

Let's say that you don't even like half the people you
live and work with. Nobody's perfect, but we are all
pretty nice people at the root of it. If you force
yourself to ask this question with total expectation of
getting an answer, you will be shocked at how many good
qualities that you can find about everyone you know or meet.
Take the next 24 hours and ask yourself, "What can I
admire about _____?" concerning everyone you meet or spend
time with, especially the people you don't necessarily like
all that much.

This exercise, if done seriously, will allow you to see
people for who they really are. You'll find out how really
lucky you are. Those are the people in your life.
They may be there just to teach you valuable lessons...
Have you ever heard, "Let's make the most of it?"
Your life IS the people in it.

So to make the most of your life, make the most of those
people and write down today's question...
And ask it often.
