[001] - Adaptive Quality of Service Architecture 2.6.21.1-gs-2.1
(Kernel-patches)
by cucinotta (http://freshmeat.net/users/cucinotta/)
Fri, May 25th 2007 00:41

Multimedia
System :: Operating System Kernels :: Linux

About: AQuoSA is an open architecture for the provisioning of adaptive
Quality of Service functionality into the Linux kernel. The project
features a flexible, portable, and lightweight software architecture for
supporting QoS-related services on top of a general-purpose operating
system as Linux. The architecture is well founded on formal scheduling
analysis and control theoretical results. At the core of the software is
an adaptive Resource Reservation layer that is capable of dynamically
adapting the CPU allocation for QoS-aware applications based on their
run-time requirements.

Changes: The kernel-patches package contains patches to the Linux kernel
that are required in order to run AQuoSA.

Education
Education :: Computer Aided Instruction (CAI)
Education :: Testing

About: LON-CAPA (The LearningOnline Network with CAPA) is a learning
content and course management system. It offers an underlying shared
content pool from which instructors across departmental and institutional
boundaries can assemble granular learning content for their courses. It
has strong assessment capabilities, both formative (homework and in-class
using wireless PDAs) and summative (online and bubblesheet exams), with a
one-source multiple-target strategy for the content. It offers students
portfolio space in which they can stage materials for submission to
projects, and provides a number of tools for synchronous and asynchronous
student-student and student-faculty communication. LON-CAPA scales well
with number of students, as load-balancing is possible across the whole
network of servers at participating institutions.

Changes: This is the first public release candidate for version 2.4. This
release introduces the ability to download a zip file of all student file
submissions to a homework problem. The user interface offers icons in
addition to the text-based buttons. Students can see all of their previous
submissions to a homework problem. Homework problems can now directly make
use of the MAXIMA symbolic math system. SuSE 10.2 and RHEL 5 are now
supported. The domain and host name tables have been updated and switched
to a new mechanism which allows for quicker updates in the future.

[021] - Moosic 1.5.3
by Daniel Pearson (http://freshmeat.net/users/danielpearson/)
Fri, May 25th 2007 01:58

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Players

About: Moosic is a music player that focuses on easy playlist management.
It consists of a server process that maintains a queue of music files to
play and a client program which sends commands to the server. The server
continually runs through its playlist, popping items off the top of the
list and playing each with an external program. The client is a simple
command-line utility which allows you to perform powerful operations upon
the server's queue, including the addition of whole directory trees,
automatic shuffling, and item removal according to regular expressions.
The server comes configured to play MP3, Ogg, MIDI, MOD, and WAV files.

Changes: The "move-pattern" command and the -C option were added to the
command-line client. "move-pattern" moves all queued songs whose names
match a regular expression to a given position in the queue. The -C option
causes the current song to be included in the output of the "list" and
"plainlist" commands.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management

About: On-line bookmarks manager is a Web interface which allows you to

Changes: Input passed to the "root" parameter in *.php files in themes is
now properly verified before being used to include files. This could have
been exploited to include arbitrary files from local or external
resources. Successful exploitation of this vulnerability requires
"register_globals" to be enabled. Input passed to the "id" parameter in

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content

About: PennAve is a dynamic photo gallery application designed for users
of F-Spot. It directly utilizes the F-Spot database to provide a fully
dynamic Web interface that allows users to drill down through tags and
view your photos. Scaling of images is done automatically, so all you need

Fri, May 25th 2007 09:30

Communications :: WAP
System :: Monitoring
System :: Networking

About: UMTSmon is a tool to control and monitor a 3G (WCDMA, UMTS, HSDPA)
card in a laptop. It handles PIN codes, operator choice (roaming),
sending/receiving SMS, and the setup of the connection.

Changes: This is probably the most stable release yet for all 100%
supported cards. If you own a single port serial card (XU870, GC79, most
Sierra Wireless), this release will finally work for you -- but don't try
to do things with umtsmon while you are connected (like the SMS or info
dialogs), or it will crash. It also has a new, revamped UI. There's still
one control that needs to be moved, but the new UI should work better for
everyone. This release has a dialog at startup that will tell you if all
settings are correct, and propose to change them if needed.

Fri, May 25th 2007 09:45

Database
Information Management
Office/Business :: CRM

About: Wikidbase is a powerful and highly flexible combination of two
structural extremes of data management systems: a wiki and a database. As
such, it has all of the flexibility of a wiki (e.g. any kind of
unstructured data can be stored) and the structural data capabilities of a
database (e.g. data may be modeled similarly to database fields, tables,
and relations, such that structural reports can me made of that data). The
functionality is combined in such a way that this general-purpose data
management system may be shaped easily without the need of a database
expert into a custom data management application such as a contact
relation management (CRM) system, a knowledge base, a shared calendar
system, a project management system, etc.

[052] - XMLUnit 1.1 Beta 2 (For Java)
by Stefan Bodewig (http://freshmeat.net/users/bodewig/)
Fri, May 25th 2007 02:14

Software Development :: Libraries
Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries
Software Development :: Testing

About: XMLUnit provides assertions and supporting class libraries to test
various properties of generated pieces of XML using a popular testing
framework. It supports finding the differences between two pieces of XML,
validating documents against DTDs or XML Schemas, testing the results of
XPath expressions, or asserting properties of Nodes exposed via DOM
traversal. Two branches exist: one that supports Java and JUnit and one
that supports the .NET Framework and NUnit.

Changes: This second beta changes the way the schemaLocation and
noNamespaceSchemaLocation attributes of the XMLSchema-Instance namespace
are handled. Documents that only differ in these attributes are now
considered similar. Compared with XMLUnit 1.0, the 1.1 version expands
support for XML Schema in validation and comparisions and vastly improves
XPath tests (namespaces and JAXP 1.3's XPath engine are now supported).
Several minor but useful enhancements have been made.
