A British Crown colony, the island of Turks and Caicos was originally discovered by Christopher Columbus in 1492 (he discovered someplace else that year...but Turks and Caicos has better beaches :-).

Turks and Caicos consists of 40 different islands, although the best known is Providenciales (known locally as Provo...it's where I am in the picture above). It's the center of the tourism industry, and boasts a wide range of hotels. Grand Turk and Salt Cay have great Bermudian architecture and some of the best scuba diving; note that Grand Turk has a new cruise ship center. Middle Caicos and North Caicos offer lush woodlands, an enormous cave network, a flamingo pond, and other environmental sights and experiences. South Cay is known for fishing (especially conch and lobster) and its historic Cockburn harbor. Parrot Cay and Pine Cay are privately owned, and host two of the more exclusive resorts in Turks and Caicos.

We've picked some of our favorite resorts in Turks and Caicos to tempt you!
