Shrek the ThirdShrek's third outing finds our green antihero in an unusual predicament: the king has died, and Shrek is next in line to ascend to the throne. Typically, he wants nothing of it and must set off to find a replacement. Hijinks, fart jokes, and ironic postmodern deconstruction ensue. But critics say Third has gone too far with the Shrek formula: it relies too heavily on pop culture references and fairy tale spoofs, marginalizing the heart and charm that made the first two classics. Also, the sheer amount of new and returning characters has given the best characters - Shrek, Donkey, and Fiona - the least screen time in any Shrek yet. Find out what else is playing this week.

IN THEATERS
WAITRESS (90%)
Certified FreshStarring Keri Russell & Jeremy Sisto, directed by Adrienne Shelly

Consensus
Sweet, smart and quirky, Waitress hits the right notes with its witty script and a superb performance by Keri Russell.

ON VIDEO/DVD
PAN'S LABYRINTH (96%)
Certified FreshStarring Sergi Lopez & Ariadna Gil, directed by Guillermo Del Toro

Consensus
Pan's Labyrinth is Alice in Wonderland for grown-ups, with the horrors of both reality and fantasy blended together into an extraordinary, spellbinding fable. Told through the eyes of a little girl whose imaginary world is inhabited by nightmarish creatures, Pan's Labyrinth is a visually imaginative and allegorical take on the fears she faced in Spain during WWII.
