by Jennifer Laycock - The long tail is a theory that's been pretty well played and discussed in search circles over the past few years. From the keyword long tail to the linking long tail, people have analyzed it's impact on everything marketing related. That's why I thought it was interesting to see a new take on the concept.
Local Search: Which Hat Shall I Wear?
by Paul Jahn - Actually, this isn't between white or black hat search marketing. It's between SEM and flat-out marketing. When it comes to local search, it winds up I'll set aside my SEM hat and trade it in for that regular ol' marketing hat.
Riding the Ranking Roller Coaster
by Jennifer Laycock - One of the challenges to those new to the world of search engine optimization is learning to to ride the ups and downs of search engine rankings without losing your stomach. Fluctuation is a natural part of search indexes and few sites maintain their exact positions without a little bit of jostling now and then. That said, for those that haven't experienced these bumps, it can be difficult to understand what's going on. Stoney deGeyter addresses that issue today in his Small is Beautiful column at Search Engine Land.

Matt Cutts Reignites Some Simmerring Embers
High Rankings Forum - "...the issue is more one of Google's place on the Web, IMO it's fine that Google choose how to implement their own ranking algo. What's not fine is Google telling Web publishers how to create content. I'm very uncomfotable with the notion that people (are encouraged by Google to) create content in Google's image. That's completely the wrong way round, and sets a precedent which, taken to its extreme, results in cloaking (creating content in Google's image, purely for Googlebot to see). I'm much more comfortable with the idea that Google adapts to the Web, rather than vice versa. But then, I am a white hat. Is Google?"
