20 MILLION WINDOWS MOBILE 6 DEVICES IN 2008?
At its Mobile and Embedded Developer Conference (MEDC) last week,
Microsoft predicted that 20 million Windows Mobile 6-based devices will
ship in 2008. Additionally, Entertainment and Devices Division (EDD)
President Robbie Bach said sales of Windows Mobile grew 40 percent in
2006, making it the "fastest-growing phone operating system on the market."

COMPACT WINDOWS TABLET TARGETS ROAD WARRIORS
Above-Net is sampling a compact but feature-loaded slate-style tablet PC
running Windows XP Pro and targeting "traveling executives." The
"TopExec" tablet is powered by a 1 GHz Via C7-M processor, sports an
8.4-inch SVGA touchscreen display, and packs 802.11b/g and Bluetooth
wireless communications.

MICROSOFT WIKI TARGETS WINDOWS CE BSP DEVELOPERS
Microsoft has established a wiki specifically for developers of Windows
CE and Windows Mobile board-support packages (BSPs). Called the "Big
Book of BSP" and hosted on Microsoft's Channel 9 website, the wiki aims
to provide "comprehensive information pertaining to Windows Embedded CE
and Windows Mobile BSPs."

SURVEY SEEKS INPUT ON WINDOWS MOBILE, EMBEDDED DOCS

MAJOR GPS MAKER LICENSES WINDOWS CE PHONE PLATFORM
Intrinsyc Software has signed a deal to license its Windows CE-based
Soleus feature phone software platform to a "major" manufacturer of
handheld GPS devices. The undisclosed licensee will use Soleus to
integrate telephony features in its personal navigation products, along

CELLULAR M2M MODULE VENDORS STRUGGLE DESPITE BOOMING MARKET
The market for cellular radio modules that target M2M
(machine-to-machine) communications applications will grow from 18
million units in 2006 to 90 million units in 2012, forecasts ABI
Research. However, commoditization and shrinking margins make for an
"extremely difficult market" for module vendors, the market research
firm said.
