Ocean Explorer
Anyone who is captivated by the mysterious beauty of the ocean will want to
dive right into this cool site. Created by the National Oceanic and
Atmospheric Association (NOAA), the Ocean Explorer website is an
educational resource that gives the public access to current NOAA
scientific explorations taking place in our oceans all around the world.
Browse current Explorations, track their progress in close to real-time,
and learn about the specific goals of each marine expedition. Highlights
include "Sounds of the Southern Ocean", "The Search for Trouvadore", and
"New Zeeps 06" (a rare peek into the deep waters off of New Zealand). Be
sure to check out the Gallery, which has breathtaking images from beneath
the surface, recordings of the sea, photographs of shipwrecks, and other
stunning visuals from past NOAA explorations.

Famous Last Words
Depending on the situation, words can be powerful tools for communication,
a medium for art and humor, or just "all talk". If you love history, or
just have a dark sense of humor, you are bound to appreciate the "Last
Words Browser", an online collection of the final words uttered by famous
people.
Browse the index alphabetically and read the "last words" of well-known
Authors, Poets, Politicians, Composers, Dictators, Prophets, Scientists,
Artists, Royals, and other famous figures in human history. Spoken just
before their passing, these memorable finales include passionate sentiments
of Faith, profound philosophical statements, and unbelievably callous and
witty jokes. Our personal favorite was uttered by Oscar Wilde on his death
bed; "Either that wallpaper goes, or I do."

Family Trees
America is known as the great "melting pot", a nation built by colonials,
explorers, pilgrims, immigrants, refugees, and folks from all over the
world looking for freedom and a chance at prosperity. While Americans know
their immediate family history, the turbulent nature by which many people's
relatives arrived in this country has left them disconnected from some of
the branches on their family tree.
FamilySearch.Org, which boasts the largest collection of free family
history and genealogy records in the world, is a great resource helping
"generations meet". With a searchable database and tons of useful
features, this non-profit site is a valuable tool for those who are
interested in discovering their deeper ancestral roots.

SHORT TAKES
20 Most Amazing Coincidences
There is an old saying that "there is no such thing as a coincidence", but
whether or not you believe in Fate it is hard to argue with the fact that
sometimes extraordinary circumstances conspire with uncanny
synchronicity. OddWeek.Com presents the "20 Most Amazing Coincidences", a
highlight reel of happenstance that will challenge even the most skeptical
of readers.

Getting a Real Person
If you've called your insurance company lately, or any other large
corporation, then you know that it near impossible to get an actual human
being on the line. This cool site, created by Paul English, has an
extensive list of big companies and tips on how "to find a human" when you
call them.

Bush Yoga
President George W. Bush has been called many things during the six years
he has occupied the Oval Office, but yoga master surely isn't one of
them. This quirky website features an action-figure version of Dubya that
demonstrates traditional Yoga asanas, despite being dressed in his
memorable "Mission Accomplished" flight suit. OHM!

The History of the Button
Remote controls, cameras, flashlights, clothing, pinball machines and
elevators are inventions that have one thing in common; they all have
buttons. This interesting website examines the history and evolution of
the "push-button", a seemingly simple mechanism that connects human beings
and man-made technology with a mere touch.
This self-described "blog/resource/concept" does a great job of capturing
the subtle ubiquity of the button in modern culture. Browse the site by
its diverse categories, including "Airport", "Advertising", "Computers",
"Kitchen", "Movies", "Music", "Vegas", and "War", to see how buttons can be
found in nearly every aspect of our society. It is fascinating to see how
something that began as a rudimentary "on/off" switch has evolved into a
device of unfathomable power, with the potential to connect people,
entertain children, launch missiles, and save lives.

Re-Gifting
Fans of the TV show "Seinfeld" will remember that the brilliantly
insightful sitcom first coined the term "re-gifting". For those of us
previously unfamiliar with this ethically-challenging verb, it is clearly
defined in Webster's New Millennium Dictionary of English as "to give as a
gift something one previously received as a gift."
With the motto "Really, you Shouldn't Have", Regiftable.Com is part forum,
part etiquette guide, and part tribute site to the underground world of
re-gifting. Read about the five "W's", hear stories from fellow
re-gifters, learn tips to avoid getting caught as well as other artful
devices to help you through the uncomfortable, hilarious, yet all too
frequent dilemma of what to do with a present you don't want.

Polaroid Polanoid
Digital cameras are becoming more and more popular everyday, but some of us
still long for the nostalgic sights, smells, and textures of traditional
photography. When the original Polaroid camera was released it represented
a new form of "Instant Gratification", as well as a unique, signature style
that endures in today's digital world.
Born in 2004, the Polanoid.Net website is a true labor of love that
celebrates the natural magic of Polaroid pictures. The site has over
70,000 images and aims to be the biggest and best online "instant photo"
community around, with the help of loyal contributors and fellow Polaroid
junkies from all around the world. Search the Gallery, vote for your
favorite Polaroid, upload personal photos, and check out Polanoid's ongoing
creative photography projects.
