Dear friend of Global Exchange, I'm writing to let you know about a special Citizen Diplomacy delegation to Iran that Global Exchange has organized to respond to the recent escalation of tensions between the US and Iran. At this point in time, it is extremely important for people from the United States to educate themselves and others about what's really going on in Iran, and provide a counter balance to the Bush administration's demonization of that country. Information about the delegation is below, as are dates for other GX Reality Tours to Afghanistan, Jordan & Syria, and Israel & Palestine. Thanks, as always, for your hard work on behalf of peace and justice, Global Exchange Global Exchange presents: Iran: Citizen DiplomacyJuly 7th - 20th, 2007* & October 13th - 26th, 2007 * This is a special delegation recently added to respond to the escalation of tension and increase engagement with Iranians DEADLINE FOR JULY TRIP: JUNE 1st, 2007 Is the threat of war really the best response to Iran's nuclear program? Is the US media's portrayal of Iran accurate or influenced by US interests? How do Iranians feel about the US government, people and the current crisis? Global Exchange invites you to visit Iran as a citizen diplomat to do what our governments cannot do, create people-to-people ties. During this time of heightened US tension against Iran, and a backdrop of zero diplomacy for over 27 years, it has become even more important for Americans to educate themselves and others, and provide a counter balance to the Bush administration's demonization of the country and people. Learn the complex facets of Iranian history, culture and the context of US-Iran relations. Hear from multiple perspectives about Iranian daily life, society, and the current crisis with the US. See that despite censorship and social repression, Iranians continue to advance and struggle towards change. Tentative meetings with: * Society of Victims of Chemical Warfare * University and Theological students * Women's Society against Environmental Pollution * Grand Ayatollah Imami, a high-ranking Shi'ite cleric * Visits to Zoroastrian, Jewish and Christian minority communities Cost: $2150 * Double-room hotel accommodations (Single rooms are available for an additional $425) * Three meals per day * Transportation to and from all programmed activities * A qualified trip leader and language translation * All program activities and honoraria to host speakers, organizations, and communities. Upcoming Global Exchange Delegations to the Middle EastWith the ongoing war in Iraq, the rising escalation and threat of war with Iran, and the continued siege on the Palestinian Occupied Territories, it is crucial, now more than ever, to examine the role of U.S. foreign policy within the region. Through creating people-to-people and engaging with civil society, U.S. citizens are able to bear witness to the wide range of ramifications resulting from the Bush Administration's flawed vision of a "New Middle East." The delegations also serve to present the diversity of opinions among Americans not represented within our government.
