IS THE EMBEDDED INDUSTRY DEAD?
What do we mean by "embedded"? Doug Gaff, an engineering manager at
Wind River, pondered that question as he wandered the aisles at last
week's Embedded Systems Conference. It was like "taking a walk down
memory ***," says Gaff, and yet "something didn't feel right." Read
this interesting guest column to learn how Gaff thinks the "embedded"
industry is evolving.

REPORT EXAMINES LINUX'S POTENTIAL IN MOBILE PHONES
All tier one mobile phone manufacturers are "involved with Linux on some

OPINION: GPLV3 LACKS FOCUS ON FUNDAMENTALS
The Free Software Foundation should focus on GPL modernization, instead
of trying to answer "unasked questions of software freedom," an
interesting eWEEK editorial by Jason Brooks suggests. With only one
draft to go, the authors of GPLv3 should put adoptability first, given
the license's potential to unite open source communities.
