 | | Create A Ten Year Time Capsule:
Ask your family to write a letter to themselves in 2017 detailing what lifes like now in 2007 and what they predict itll be like in ten years. If theyre too young to write, ask your child to draw a self portrait of what theyll look like in 2017. Be sure to include current photographs, newspapers, magazines and other memorabilia, and to get creative with the actual capsule. Create a colorful box and store it in a place where itll be regularly seen and not easily forgotten, such as a coat closet.
| | | | Plan A Scavenger Hunt:
Invite friends over for a scavenger hunt with an educational twist. Put together a list of clues to items in and outside the house, and mark the items with a sticker or piece of yarn so that everyone knows theyre the hidden treasure! Be sure to give hints of what theyre looking for (something round that goes on a finger) as opposed to the actual item (a ring).
| | | | Have A Generational Play Date:
Encourage your child to find out what life was like 40-60 years ago before video games and DVDs, by inviting a grandparent or older family member to share their childhood experiences. Ask them to bring a few childhood pictures and share their favorite playtime activities from growing up.
| | | | Plan A Day Trip:
Give your child the chance to plan an afternoon from start to finish. Provide them with a calendar, a few ideas of places to go (i.e. museum, botanical garden, etc.), and a map. Help your child to mark the calendar and map out directions. | |
