Top Picks - Home Theater Receivers - Priced at 399.00 or Less  from your Home Theater Guide
The home theater receiver (also referred to as an AV Receiver) not only provides power to the speakers, but serves as an integrated control center for all of your components, often times providing both audio and video switching. In addition, even moderately priced home theater receivers provide features and quality that just a couple of years ago would have commanded sky high prices. Below is a list of my favorite mid-line home theater receivers ($399 or Less).

1) Onkyo TX-SR504 Entry-Level 7.1 Channel Home Theater Receiver
With plenty of power, extensive surround processing options, built-in XM Satellite Radio Tuner, and iPOD dock compatibility, Onkyo's new TX-SR504 brings mid-level performance and flexibility down to an entry level price. For additional details, check out my product profile of the Onkyo TX-SR504 Entry-Level 7.1 Channel Home Theater Receiver.

2) Yamaha HTR-5930 5.1 Channel Home Theater Receiver
With plenty of power, useful surround sound processing options, and built-in XM Satellite Radio Tuner, the Yamaha HTR-5930 5.1 Channel Home Theater Receiver delivers great performance, despite its modest price.

With the HTR-5930, Yamaha has provided an excellent feature package and performance in an entry-level Receiver. The HTR-5930 is equally at home in both the music-only and DVD movie environments. Also, if you have an HDTV, the HTR-5930's component video inputs and outputs are fully compatible with progressive scan and HD video signals using the component video interface.

3) Onkyo TX-SR304 5.1 Channel Entry-Level Home Theater Receiver
The TX-SR304 delivers what it promises, both in terms of home theater and music reproduction. The TX-SR304 also offers features that are practical for the user.

Although not offering the extensive connectivity, features, and more complex audio/video processing of higher-end units, the TX-SR304 offers essentials for today's entry-level user: Excellent sound quality, HD-compatible component video switching for use with HDTVs, and an easy-to-use remote control.
