The Aids Poster Collection

While there has been tremendous progress made in Research and Treatment in
the past two decades, HIV/AIDS remains a global pandemic that affects all
of us. Although the fight against AIDS has not yet been won, it is
important that we are able to look back at what has been accomplished and
find the inspiration and dedication necessary to rid the p***t of this
deadly disease once and for all.

The UCLA Digital Library presents this historical collection of AIDS public
health posters, which contains over six hundred posters from 44 different
countries. The collection provides unique insight into how different
governments, agencies, and health organizations have used poster artwork to
educate people about AIDS, and influence and modify dangerous behaviors.

Top 100 Alternative Search Engines

If you ask a friend what Internet search engine they use, they will
undoubtedly shout "Google!" or one of the other large engines such as Yahoo
or AOL. This cool feature, courtesy of ReadWriteWeb.Com, presents the "Top
100 Alternative Search Engines" for the more discerning and ambitious Web
browsers.

Learn about cool, alternative "engines that could" that may not be better
than Google on the whole, but are far superior in the specific areas in
which they search. Standouts include GoshMe.Com, TheFind.Com, Hakia.Com,
and other lesser-known but excellent search engines. Be sure to check back
at the end of the year, when the site will select its "Alternative Search
Engine of the Year".

Super Bowl Rings

The Super Bowl is the biggest sporting event in America, watched by
hundreds of millions of people around the world and garnering millions of
dollars in advertising revenue. Players who win the Super Bowl describe it
as the "ultimate achievement" in their sport, and in addition to the pride
and money they also receive the coveted Super Bowl Ring.

Created by ESPN.Com, "A Story behind Every Ring" tells the many fascinating
stories of players, coaches, and managers who have won the Super Bowl since
its inception in 1967. Fans can browse by year to get an insider's glimpse
into the tales behind the past 40 Super Bowls, watch a video called
"Ringmasters" that shows how these special rings are made, and get answers
to 20 questions about "Bling Basics".

SHORT TAKES

One Special Dog

his very own website. Charlie's "best friends" are Nicole Dotin and Eric
Olsen, who created this sweet site to document the daily adventures of this
adorable 3 ½ year old pup.

Will it Blend?

The name and topic of this wacky website is a question not often posed in
today's world, but that does not keep it from being a thoroughly
entertaining concept. After checking out the "Will It Blend?" site, you
may very well end up looking around the house asking yourself that very
same question.

Get a look at the underground world of Extreme Blending, where participants
attempt to blend inedible items such as Glow Sticks, diamonds, toy cars,
cassettes, and even "Annoying Valentine Gifts" in supercharged
blenders. Visitors can watch videos of these daring blending experiments,
which are divided into distinct categories, entitled "Try this at Home" and
"Don't Try this at Home". Blend Away!!!

The United States in the 1930s

The third decade of the American 20th Century was both a tumultuous and
contradictory period in our nation's history. It was a time in between
World Wars, when the United States was devastated by "The Great
Depression", inspired by Albert Einstein, entertained by "Citizen Kane",
and rescued by President Franklin Delano Roosevelt.

"America in the 1930s" is a fascinating retrospective on this unique period
in United States History, courtesy of The Department of American Studies at
the University of Virginia. Visitors can spend hours going through the
many sections of the site, which showcase the Film, Radio, Print,
Advertising, and Pop Culture of the decade. Don't skip the "1930's
Timeline", a multimedia listing of significant events from 1929-1940,
divided up into categories on Science, Politics, Arts, and World Events.

Go Vote

The current White House Administration's foreign and domestic policy is
pushing more and more of the public to take an interest in American
politics. Additionally, the upcoming 2008 Presidential election is
starting unusually early, and promises to be one of the most heated and
significant elections in our Nation's history.

Whether you believe in the political views of Democrats, Republicans,
Independents, Greens, Libertarians, or any other of America's political
parties, you have to be registered to vote if you want your voice to be
heard. This great non-profit site makes it easy to officially register,
with four easy steps for people who are unregistered to vote to follow so
that they can cast their ballot in 2008!
