Dear Reader,
I have been having a lot of fun this week in my sewing room with
a new pattern that I found online for a cute little wallet. It is
called the wonder wallet, and I can make one wallet from a 5 inch
strip of cotton fabric. I have been pulling out fabrics that I
thought were too small for much of anything, and making wonderful
little creations with them.
The Wonder Wallet pattern is made by Joan Hawley of Lazy Girl Designs
at: http://www.lazygirldesigns.com
I have also made her perfect pouches, "sassy bag" and checkbook cover.
There is no better way to unwind after a hard day of fixing computers
than to be creative with a great pattern and some fabric. If you visit
Joan's website beginning next week, March 5th through 16th, you will
find a new design on her blog every day!
I had a chance to un-install Internet Explorer 7 on a computer today,
and the computer automatically went back to using Internet Explorer 6.
It even had all the favorites right back where they belong. Thank
you to Bob in Wells for verifying my results when he signed my guestbook
this week.
Have a great week,
Elizabeth

Dear Computer Lady,
How do I copy the content of a floppy disk to my hard drive?
Bob
Dear Bob,
It is actually quite simple to copy the contents of a floppy disk to
your hard drive, and then you can even put them on a CD for long
term storage.
Let's get started:
1. First, we need to make a place on the hard drive for you floppy
files to be stored. For now, we will make a folder on your desktop.
Later on, we can move it to "My Documents" or another storage place.
2. To create a folder on your desktop, right click on a blank space
on your desktop. A menu will appear. Point to "New" on the menu,
then click on "Folder".
3. A folder will appear on your desktop with the name, "New Folder"
highlighted blue. You can type the name for your folder, and it
will replace the highlighted name. I am going to name my folder,
floppy01.
4. Now that we have our storage folder, double click on it to open
the empty folder. For now, just leave that folder open on your
desktop, we will get back to it later.
5. Put your floppy disk in the floppy drive and open it by opening
"My Computer" (it will either be in your start menu, or on your
desktop), and then double clicking on the floppy drive.
6. You should now have 2 windows open, one has the contents of the
floppy disk, and the other is empty. I like to set the windows up
side by side to make my work easier. You can do this quite simply
by right clicking on a blank spot on your taskbar, and then
clicking "Tile Windows Vertically" from the menu that appears.
7. We are almost there! You should have the two windows side by side.
Now you need to select all the files in the floppy window. You can
do this one of two ways. You can click on "Edit" in the menu bar,
then click on "Select All" or you can click on one of the files in
the floppy window, then use the keyboard shortcut "Ctrl+A" Just
hold down the Ctrl key on your keyboard, then tap the letter A.
8. Once all your files are selected, use your mouse to drag any one
of the files from one window to the other. Give the files a few
minutes to copy, and you will be done.

Dear computer Lady,
How can I transfer my Favorite Files to a disk?
I am always look forward to your weekly mails and I learned a lot.
Thank you so much.
Anna from ct
Dear Anna,
If you are looking for an easy way to move your favorites from one
computer to another, or just wanting to have a backup copy, the
easiest thing to do is put your favorites on what is known as a
thumb drive or data stick. You can get one at any office supply
store, or even Wal-mart.
All you really need to do, is find your favorites folder and drag it
to your disk, or burn it onto a CD. Lets get started.
To find your favorites folder, you can use one of several methods.
1. Click on "Start" then "Run". Type "Favorites" in the run box and
click "OK" to open your favorites folder.
2. Click on "Start" then "Search". Search for all files and folders
named "Favorites" and find the one that has your favorites. It will
have a star icon rather than a folder icon.
3. Browse through your hard drive and find the favorites folder. In
older versions of Windows, it will be in the "Windows" folder of
your hard drive. In Windows XP, it will be in the "Documents and
Settings" folder of your hard drive.
Once you have located your "Favorites" folder, it is a simple thing
to drag it to a disk, or right click on it point to "Send To" and
then click on your CD-RW drive to copy it to a CD.

Xara Xtreme Pro:
The folks at the Xara group recently sent me a copy of their
newest program, Xara Xtreme Pro to review, and I was delighted
to find a real gem of a program!
Xara Xtreme Pro is truly a general purpose graphics program that
covers all aspects of graphics design. You can use it to create
simple, elegant business graphics and logos, or incredibly detailed
drawings, cartoons, web graphics or just as a tool to touch up
photos from your digital camera.
Xara Xtreme Pro allows you to combine graphics and text which makes
it great for desktop publishing work. You can have mulitpage text
boxes. The text can flow freely between columns and pages. You can
set margins, indents and tabs. Your work can then be exported as a
top quality PDF file.
The Xara Picture Editor which comes with Xara Xtreme Pro has many
awesome abilities, all you have to do is watch the tutorial video
to be impressed. My favorite feature in the Picture Editor is the
ability to get rid of red eye.
I have used lots of image programs to clean up photos with red eyes
over the years. I have one program on my computer that I install
just for that purpose. I won't be needing it any more. After
watching the video tutorial that came with Xara Picture Editor, I
practiced on a couple of pictures from Christmas time and I was
able to create beautiful, naturally colored eyes. It really
couldn't be any easier. All I had to do was zoom in on the eyes by
drawing a box around the eyes, then I clicked and dragged a circle
over the red part of the eye, as I drew the circle, the red was
replaced with a naturally colored eye. I had total control over the
part of the eye that was changed, and the texture of eye and any
highlights were not lost, just changed from red to black.
If you have any interest in graphics programs, I would encourage you
to head on over to their website and watch some of the movies that
show how easy it is to use Xara Xtreme Pro:

Dear Computer Lady,
I have just received my first newsletter from you and am very
excited. Thanks, this is
going to be great help.
My question is about internet cookies. I usually delete the
internet cookies when I am done
using the internet. This is to avoid getting spyware. I would like
to keep some of the
cookies to web sites I regularly go to such as ebay or now your own
computer lady web page.
Is there any way to keep specific cookies and be able to still
delete any others that pop
up?
Thanks, Jeannine
Dear Jeannine,
If you are using the tools that come with internet Explorer to
delete your cookies and
temporary files, you don't have many options if you want to keep
some of your files,
cookies, shortcuts or passwords.
I have a program on my website, however, that will allow you to
specify any cookies that you
want to keep. The best thing is that you only have to tell the
program once, and it will
automatically remember the settings each time you run the program.
Just head over to my website at:
http://tinyurl.com/2c46xg
To learn more about this great little program.
Here are some of the features of Smart Windows Cleaner:
Keep sites that should not be removed from Internet Explorer's
History and Drop Down URL List.
Keep cookies that store important login information.
Deletes Cookies
Deletes Typed URLs
Deletes Temporary Internet Files
Deletes Recent Document List
Deletes Temp Files
Deletes Internet Explorer History
Empties the recycle bin
Deletes Run/Search History
Provides a comprehensive log each time the software is run, so
that you can see exactly what the program is doing!
Smart Windows Cleaner sells for $24.00
