BRATTLEBORO -- A push to overturn Vermont's education funding formula was defeated Friday when legislators voted down an amendment to repeal Act 60. The Republican-led proposal would have eliminated the current funding system by July 1, 2009. The amendment was defeated 94-33, with most Windham County legislators voting against it. ? Full Story

WOODFORD -- A missing snowmobile rider weathered Wednesday's blizzard in the woods of Woodford and was able to walk out on his own Thursday morning. Neil Jensen, 41, of Egremont, Mass., had been operating his snowmobile with three other friends from Massachusetts on a Vermont Association of Snow Travelers trail in Woodford when he became separated from the group. ? BRATTLEBORO -- In the span of a few months, Justin Bustillos, once a laughing and gregarious man, changed dramatically. Family and friends were concerned after the once-outgoing 26-year-old became withdrawn and seemed to fall into depression. After the last couple of winters, we've been out of practice in dealing with big snowstorms. But Wednesday's storm was a reminder of what winter in Vermont used to be like. We were lucky here.
