When Mercedes-Benz's head of design, Professor Peter Pfeiffer, unveiled the coup? at the Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart in 2006, it received spontaneous applause. Power trip

The latest star in the AMG model range is an eight-cylinder unit developed entirely in-house. A combination of high engine speeds and large displacement enables the naturally aspirated 6.2-litre powerplant to develop 630Nm of torque and 378kW. This extraordinary power is available on-tap in the E 63 AMG and CLS 63 AMG. Horst von Sanden, Managing Director for Mercedes Car Group in Australia, says: "It represents a genuine transfer of technology and engineering success from the racetrack to the road."

Perfect parking
Squeezing into the tightest parking spaces is now yesterday's problem thanks to the new electronic parking guidance system fitted in the new CL-Class. This new technology even helps to locate the space in the first place. Up to eight close-range radar sensors send out electromagnetic waves, which rebound from nearby objects. This then calculates a digital image of the car's surroundings, creating a map on the multifunction display. Once in reverse gear, the control unit plays the role of an electronic guide until you're parked.
