DAYTONA BRIEFS: Jeff Gordon's car fails post-race inspection

Jeff Gordon's car, which won the second 150-mile qualifying race on Thursday, was too low in post-race tech inspection at Daytona International Speedway. The victory will stand -- mainly because NASCAR simply doesn't take victories from anyone -- but the four-time series champion will start 42nd instead of fourth in Sunday afternoon's Daytona 500.

NASCAR vice-president of competition Robin Pemberton said he felt "100 percent sure" the infraction was inadvertent and unintentional. "The bolt on the shock fastener and the shock bracket itself were misaligned," he said several hours after the race.
