Easy Listening
Shopping for a new pair of headphones can be an intimidating process. Should you put down serious money or try to get away with a cheap pair? Is it for the gym or home listening? We're here to help. Our lead analyst for audio, Tim Gideon, highlights five smart choices, all under $100. Read more about them at PCMag.com.
AIM Strikes Back
AIM 6 integrates a lot of new features. Prepare for gobs of glitz, a pile of new social-networking capabilities, and built-in hooks that will let you effortlessly shuttle among IM and AOL-owned properties. Still, some users may find the new feature set to be a bit overwhelming for their tastes. For the full review, check out PCMag.com.
A Respectable and Sharp-shooting Superzoom
The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H5 has plenty of allure, with a bright three-inch LCD, a whopping 12X optical zoom, and image stabilization. However, there's still room for improvement. Read our in-depth review at PCMag.com.
This Photo Inkjet Isn't Just for Photos
We thought that last year's Editors' Choice standard ink jet couldn't be surpassed. But Canon has exceeded our expectations with the Canon Pixma iP4300 Photo Inkjet Printer, which is faster, better, and cheaper than the last. Check out what we think of its performance and features at PCMag.com.
Pinnacle Expands Tuner Offerings
Pinnacle Systems said this week that it has expanded its Pinnacle PCTV tuner family to take advantage of the media-center enhancements to Windows Vista. The new line includes two portable USB2 digital TV tuner kits, which include an original full-size remote control. Get the deets on what each product has to offer at PCMag.com.
D-Link Ships Mobile Hotspot
Finally, you may just be able to go where no Wi-Fi has gone before. D-Link is shipping a new mobile Wi-Fi router that can work anywhere there is a cell signal that's data capable. The new DIR-450 is designed to accept an EV-DO card from carriers such as Sprint, Verizon, or Alltel. Read more at PCMag.com.
Reporting from RSA
Neil Rubenking is reporting back from RSA with several new product announcements today. First off, the long-awaited CounterSpy 2.0 was released today. We've also got news on Finjan's new SecureBrowsing tool, which will give SiteAdvisor a run for its money. And there's a new e-mail encryption/decryption tool from Voltage Security that looks to simplify the e-mail security process. And check
PCMag.com's news page for more breaking news.
System-to-System File Transfer Made Easy
One reason why most people put off hard drive upgrades is that transferring information is even more time consuming and difficult than backing up! Typically you'd have to burn to a CD-ROM or move content to another PC, then transfer it back to your PC's new hard drive. NewerTech is making the process a little closer to plug and play with its USB 2.0 Universal Drive Adapter ($24.95). Get the details at Gearlog.com.
Demo 2007 Brain Dump
Demo 2007 is the show to go to if you want to see the tech products most likely to have an impact in the coming year. The first of the twice-yearly shows has just ended, and our editor of reviews Lance Ulanoff was there to see all of the shows first-hand. He shares all that he saw in the final DEMO session in a massive brain dump. Check it out at AppScout. Also, you can find his earlier notes from the show here, here and here.
