Two-photon emission seen in semiconductor Feb 1
Electrical engineers in Israel claim to have observed two photons being emitted from a single-electron process in a semiconductor for the first time . The photon pairs were emitted at a relatively high rate from an electrically-pumped quantum-well structure at room temperature. The researchers believe that the phenomenon could be exploited to make a highly efficient but simple source of "entangled" photon pairs for quantum computers (arXiv:quant-ph/0701114).
