cityhunter007 writes to point out coverage on CNN.com about an [0]ancient
village discovered two miles from Stonehenge that may have housed workers
building the monument, or perhaps visitors after it was constructed. The
village, at a site known as Durrington Walls, dates from about the time
Stonehenge was built, 2600 BCE. The article says: "The researchers
speculated that Durrington Walls was a place for the living and
Stonehenge ?€? where cremated remains have been found ?€? was a cemetery and
memorial... Stonehenge was oriented to face the midsummer sunrise and
midwinter sunset, while the wooden circle at Durrington Walls faced the
midwinter sunrise and midsummer sunset."

party lines (Democrats yea, Republicans no), with the exception of
Senator Snowe, who voted with the Democrats. Now that the Democrats have
a slight majority in the Senate, the bill certainly has a better chance,
but it still needs 60 votes to prevent a Republican filibuster.

Ed over in Accounting writes in with a Macinstein [0]interview with Ellen
Feiss, an Internet cult figure of a bygone era. Back in 2002, in the
heyday of Apple's "Switcher" ads, the 14-year-old Feiss garnered a bit
more than 15 minutes of fame. Her Switcher ad became an instant classic ?€?
partly because of the widespread belief that she was stoned while filming
it, which she says was not the case. In the interview Feiss, who is now a
college student with one movie behind her, talks about pseudo Internet
fame, drugs, and acting. She says she's still using the same G4 she had
when the ad ran. Nostalgia bonus: the ad is embedded at the end of the
interview.

officer and now chairman of Microsoft, he contributed to a marked
improvement in the company's emotional appeal. Jeanie Cummins, a survey
respondent and homemaker in Olive Hill, Ky., says Mr. Gates's
philanthropy made her a much bigger fan of Microsoft. "He showed he cared
more for people than all the money he made building Microsoft from the
ground up," she says. "I wish all the other big shots could do something
like this." To be sure, some respondents still complain that Microsoft
bullies its competitors and unfairly monopolizes the software business.
But such criticism is less biting and less pervasive than it was just a

Though this was strictly a repair, not an upgrade, neither MS or

[0]Roland Piquepaille writes "Your next camera phone might get a new kind
of lens if researchers at the University of California at San Diego
convince the cell phones makers. They have designed an '[1]origami lens'
which will slim high resolution cameras. Today, their 5-millimeter thick,
8-fold imager delivers images comparable in quality with photos taken
with a compact camera lens with a 38 millimeter focal length. In a few
years, these bendable lenses could be used in high resolution miniature
cameras for unmanned surveillance aircraft, cell phones and infrared
night vision applications."

An anonymous reader writes "An ad campaign for [0]Aqua Teen Hunger Force
featuring the Mooninites Ignignot and Err caused [1]major security
concerns in Boston, MA when magnetic light displays were mistaken for
possible bombs. The displays included one of [2]Ignignot flipping the
bird (as hard as he could), but Gov. Deval Patrick was not amused."
