News, techniques &
inspiration for the photo professional
Dear reader,
Two stories we posted this week remind us of the respect and emotion
photography can inspire. The founder of the Sipa Press photo agency made a
knight of the the Legion D'Honneur by President Jacques Chirac of France
last week. Closer to home, Time magazine staffers got a visit from the
7-year-old Pakistani girl whose photo in Time, showing her walking on
crutches through her earthquake-ravaged village, inspired a series of
charitable acts to get her medical attention in the States. In other news,
we have news about the sale of 16 Time4 Media magazines, a Who's Shooting
What, a look at Getty's deal with the LPGA and news about Hasselblad's new
31mp version of its H3D-31 medium-format back.

Secret
Italy: The Workshop
We start in Florence and drive to the nearby village of Chianti. We will
spend 2 night at an incredible hilltop villa (www.hotelradda.com).
During our stay here we will enjoy day trips
to surrounding Tuscan villages.
Next we travel to Umbria,
an equally beautiful region and is what many call the undiscovered Italy.
Italians view Umbria as what Tuscany used to be before becoming so popular
to tourists. Here we will stay in a medieval
castle (www.castellopetrata.com)
which is
located atop a hill in front of the ancient town of Assisi, where Saint
Francis was born.
Daily photo excursions
will include trips to:
- Carsulae: The remains
of a Roman village high in the hills with ruins that are over 2500 years
old.
- Medieval Monasteries
- Perugia
- Spoleto
- Wine tasting at a famous
winery
- Italian Cooking classes
for partners and/or attendees
We will have short (1-2
hours) daily classroom time to discuss photo projects that will be given,
talk about creativity and creative exercises, and do some fine art Photoshop
work on your images.
The cost of the 7 day
trip is $2700 for class attendees and $2200 for others. Partners will
be able to join attendees for all of the outings except the classroom
time. The price includes all ground transportation (you are responsible
for airfare to/from Florence), 9 meals, guided tours, classroom instruction,
image review and a DVD of the class images and experience. Please visit
www.KubotaImageTools.com
for more information.
