The Sopranos Get Clean

What do The Sopranos, Six Feet Under, and Sex in the City have in common? They're all running in syndication in somewhat edited forms -- emphasis on somewhat. Do the changes make these very popular programs more appropriate for kid viewing? The short answer is, not really. If the original versions of these edgy, mature TV shows weren't appropriate for your kids, the edited versions probably won't be either.

InThe Sopranos, for example, the brutal violence remains largely intact. The sex scenes have been shortened to eliminate nudity, and the strip club dancers now sport bikinis. As for changes in language ? no one will be fooled by the frequent "freakin" expletives. And even though you don't actually hear the "F" word, it doesn't take lip-reading skills to know what a character's saying. And, as with Six Feet Under and Sex in the City, the subject matter is still designed for adults. So don't count on editing to clean up Tony's act. If you still have questions, you might want to read our original Sopranos review.

A: You can start by explaining the facts about underage drinking. The earlier that kids start drinking and doing drugs, the higher the incidence of alcoholism. And the more alcohol ads kids see, the more they drink. Sometimes negative behavior in a kid's role model can help you put in your two cents with your kids. Get more resources.
