Five
of ten finalists in Telefilm Canada's Great Canadian Video Game Competition
from Ontario.
Ontario
game developers make up 50% of the ten finalists announced January
15, as part of the first round of Telefilm Canada's Great Canadian
Video Game Competition. Nearly 70 submissions were received from across
Canada
to vie for up to $2 million in financing and
invaluable
industry mentorship
as part of the competition.

ICE
Management team grows in strength
Toronto,
January 18, 2007 - The New Media Business Alliance (NMBA) is pleased
to announce today
that
Kim Gertler, former Executive Producer
of nextMedia, has joined the ICE 07 team as Director of Production.
In this role, Gertler will bring his extensive expertise to the creation
of the new ICE Marketplace, an international Interactive Media partnering
forum and showcase, which will take place alongside the ICE
2007 Conference
March 21st and 22nd at the Carlu in Toronto.
Recently, Gertler held the position of Executive Producer (2005, 2006)
for nextMEDIA, an interactive media festival based in Banff, Alberta,
helping to transform it into a major international event.
Kim joins Alan Sawyer, author of the 2006 report "The End Of Television
As We Know It", who is ICE 2007 Director of Conference Programming.

Interactive Digital Media Tax Credit gets official boost
The enhancements to the Ontario
Interactive Digital Media Tax Credit (OIDMTC) legislation announced
in the Provincial budget on March 23,
2006 have passed into law effective January 9, 2007.
The OIDMTC rate has been increased from 20% to 30% for corporations that
meet the definition of a "qualifying small corporation" for expenditures
incurred after March 23, 2006.

industry in Canada reached a record $933 million in 2006, up by 22 percent

funding to do business at GDC
Take advantage of the funding being offered to game developers/companies in
Canada for participation in the Canada Games component at the GDC March
5-9.
Funding
support for Canadian games includes a 40% rebate on exhibitor registration,
and $200 reimbursement for travel expenses.
