How To Achieve Your New Year's Resolutions
Happy New Year Criss
As December 31 quickly approaches, I want to
share some easy, proven techniques for succeeding
with your resolutions for 2007.
--#1--Avoid Making the Wrong Resolutions
Smart resolutions are realistic resolutions. Avoid
the temptation of making resolutions such as "I will
start exercising more". Instead, decide that you'll
take the dog for a daily walk, stroll the beach
on Saturday, or take the stairs instead of the elevator
whenever possible.
The point is to make it fun, specific and realistic.
--#2--WRITE them down.
Did you know that we have about 60,000 thoughts go
through our mind every day? It's easy to see why our
resolutions quickly fade away. So, writing down
your resolutions is very important. Writing also helps
to "engrave" the message in your mind.
Schedule your resolution. Get a calendar and write on
January 2, at 5:30-6:00 you will be walking the dog.
Then continue your schedule for the entire month.
--#3--Reward Yourself
Remember to pat yourself on the back at the end
of the month for keeping your resolutions. Do something
to reward yourself for keeping your promise to yourself.
Buy yourself something, watch a movie you've been wanting
to see, or escape for a weekend getaway.
Make it special, because you deserve it!
--#4--Never, Never Give Up
Persistence is key. If you miss a walk one day, so what?
It's what you do MOST OF THE TIME that counts. Just keep
on keeping on! Accept the fact ahead of time that there
will be bumps in the road.
Also, make changes when you need to. If walking the dog
isn't working, replace it with parking in the furthest
spot when you go shopping. If cutting out snacking isn't
happening, snack on mandarin oranges. If cutting back on
your spending isn't an option, clean the change out of
your purse every day and put it in a "savings" jar for
those spending occasions.
