Dear Raquelle,

Welcome to the December SRS bulletin. Amongst the Christmas goodies in our SRS e-stocking are a Youth Bank to investigate if you were asking Santa for some funding, plus the obesity "timebomb" and how to help defuse it! Enjoy the holidays and our best wishes for 2007...

>> Funding! Could your project do with some financial help? The Youth Bank is run by young people FOR young people... and has grants of up to £2000 available.

Eco-schools in Scotland and Shimano still have funding available... hurry though, they close 22nd and 31st December respectively.

>>Obesity  Back in the news again! There's new guidance out specifically for schools and local authorities from the NICE people (National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence). Plus we've added in the links to the latest research on its relationship to cancer and how active travel can make a BIG difference.

>>Top tips!  British winters... the recent balmy temperatures can't hide the fact they are still wet and it's dark at 4pm. So have a look in our old newsletters for top tips on staying dry and being seen;

>> Got a message for Tony Blair?  Young people have strong, perceptive views on the world... and they can let the PM know them at a special Downing Street website. Why not get those you work with to drop him their opinions on school travel, health or the environment? Could it make a good ICT exercise to link SRS to the curriculum?

BTCV

>> Free Training!  If your school travel initiative helps the community - a PTA project or after-school club perhaps - then you could get 2 days free training and other help from BTCV, the UK's leading practical conservation charity...
