Ahmet Ertegun's Atlantic Records lead force in rock 'n' roll
NEW YORK -- Ahmet Ertegun, an immigrant fan of American jazz whose Atlantic Records helped shape rock 'n' roll with artists such as Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin, the Rolling Stones and Led Zeppelin, died Thursday. He was 83.

Alan F. Shugart, 'father' of computer storage, 76
Alan F. Shugart, a pioneer of the hard disk drive industry and co-founder of Seagate Technology, has died. He was 76.

Paul Arizin, 78, NBA Hall of Fame forward
Paul Arizin, the Philadelphia Warriors' Hall of Fame forward of the 1950s and early '60s, and one of pro basketball's first jump-shot specialists, died Tuesday night at his home in suburban Philadelphia. He was 78.

A funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2006, in Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home for Ralph Leon Hill, who died Dec. 16 at age 72.

Ellis Rubin, a Miami lawyer with an affection for the disenfranchised and an outsized knack for publicity in the tradition of P.T. Barnum, died of cancer Tuesday at his home. He was 81.

Sheila Lucich Davies
A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2006, in St. Mary's Catholic Cathedral (Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception) in Portland for Sheila Lucich Davies, who died Dec. 15 at age 71.

'Sweetheart of Swing' Martha Tilton, 91
Martha Tilton, who as one of Benny Goodman's vocalists in the 1930s was billed as the "Sweetheart of Swing" and appeared on 80 of his recordings, including the celebrated 1939 rendition of "And the Angels Sing," died Dec. 8 at her home in the Los Angeles neighborhood of Brentwood. She was 91.

William John Bogle Jr.
William John Bogle Jr., a retired estate administrator for the state of Oregon and a resident of Tillamook, died Nov. 24, 2006, of a heart attack at age 68. A memorial service will be held later. Arrangements by Waud's in Tillamook. Peter Bremer
